Cypress Korea (Country Manager Lim Young-do www.cypress.com ) announced that its EZ-USB® FX3 USB 3.0 controller has been selected as a SuperSpeed Microsoft USB Test Tool (SuperMUTT).

SuperMUTT can be used with almost any host driver running USB 3.0 to test USB compliance and compatibility with Microsoft's upcoming Windows 8. Flexible USB controllers capable of interfacing with any platform, such as Cypress's EZ-USB® FX3 device, require Microsoft's SuperMUTT, a custom test tool designed to simulate a very wide range of different USB devices.

Cypress’s EZ-USB® FX3 device integrates an ARM9™ controller and 512kB of RAM, enabling developers to use powerful programming tools to test their USB 3.0 drivers. The FX3 also features the Universal Programmable Interface (GPIF), a flexible parallel interface that enables communication with any other device that works well with SuperMUTT.

USB is installed in billions of devices and is widely adopted in consumer electronics, PC peripherals, and portable devices. Furthermore, USB 3.0 is the next-generation product in the wired USB market, offering the ease of use and flexible features users expect, while providing a much higher data speed of 5 Gbps. Additionally, USB 3.0 offers better power management (20% of USB 2.0) and faster battery charging (half the charging time) compared to USB 2.0. Cypress's new FX3 controller will enable the adoption of USB 3.0 across various platforms, just as the Cypress FX2 controller did for USB 2.0.
