March 28, 2012 – Linear Technology Korea (CEO Hong Sa-kwak) announced the release of automotive (H-Rating) and high-reliability military (MP-Rating) versions of the LTM2881 and LTM2882, isolated micromodule® transceivers that provide protection against large ground-to-ground differential and common-mode transient voltages in RS485 and RS232 networks. The LTM2881 single RS485 and LTM2882 dual RS232 transceivers block ground loops by isolating the logic-level interface from the line transceiver using internal inductive signal isolation. This provides superior common-mode rejection of over 30kV/us, along with a much larger common-mode voltage range.
The low-EMI 1W DC/DC converter forms a power supply for driving RS485 or RS232 levels and additionally provides an isolated 5V supply output for driving auxiliary external components. With 2,500 VRMS galvanic isolation, onboard secondary power, and fully compatible transmitters and receivers, the LTM2881 and LTM2882 require no external components, enabling them to provide a complete and compact micromodule solution for isolated serial data communication. The H and MP grade versions are guaranteed to perform over operating temperature ranges of 40°C to 105°C and -55°C to 105°C, respectively. Both the LTM2881 and LTM2882 versions can support 3.3V and 5V input supply voltages. Both devices are available in low-profile 11.25mm x 15mm surface-mount LGA (H-grade only) and BGA packages. All ICs and passive components are available in Linear Technology's RoHS-compliant micromodule packages.
