SK Telecom Helps Improve Daily Life for People with Disabilities with IoT Technology
Published2018.01.04 11:43SK Telecom announced that it is launching the "Smart Home Dream House" project in partnership with the social welfare foundation "Warm Companionship," utilizing IoT technology to significantly improve residential convenience for people with disabilities.
The 'Smart Home Dream House' was established with the aim of enabling people with disabilities who have difficulty moving to enjoy daily life more conveniently, and will be built within the year in 10 locations selected by 'Warm Companion'.
SK Telecom provides various IoT-connected devices for daily convenience, such as switches, gas shut-off valves, and AI speakers equipped with its 'Smart Home' service, free of charge, and Rinnai (boilers) and Hatz (range hoods), who share the same purpose, also provide home appliances.
People with disabilities who use wheelchairs or live in bed often find even simple daily tasks, such as operating a boiler or opening and closing a gas shut-off valve, difficult. However, using 'smart home' services allows users to easily operate various home appliances simply by touching a smartphone app, which is expected to greatly improve the convenience of daily life for people with disabilities.
Since 2015, SK Telecom has been leading the home IoT market by partnering with over 70 home appliance manufacturers to launch more than 300 'smart home' connected devices, including air conditioners and air purifiers. It is also continuing its efforts to build an IoT ecosystem, such as by opening the 'IoT Open House,' which provides comprehensive support for the development and commercialization of IoT products for ventures and startups.
Cho Young-hoon, Head of the Home Unit at SK Telecom, stated, “We will do our utmost in cooperation with ‘Warm Companion’ to enable people with disabilities to lead their daily lives comfortably using IoT technology,” adding, “We will lead the home IoT ecosystem by continuously strengthening cooperation with domestic and international construction companies and home appliance manufacturers.”
Kim Jong-hoon, Chairman of Warm Companion, stated, "I hope the Smart Home Dream House becomes a space that can give new hope to people with disabilities," adding, "We will utilize SK Telecom's advanced IoT technology to create a space where people with disabilities can live more comfortably."

SK Telecom alleviates concerns for parents of children with disabilities through IoT.
매년 전국에서 이뤄지는 실종신고는 대략 4만건. 이 가운데 1만건 정도가 바로 장애인 관련 신고다. 특히, 지적장애를 앓고 있는 장애인이 혼자 집을 나갈 경우 아동 실종의 경우와 달리 제보도 많지 않아 찾기가 쉽지 않은 것이 현실이다. SK텔레콤은 자사의 IoT 기술을 활용해 지적장애나 시각장애, 지체장애 등을 겪는 자녀를 둔 부모들의 걱정 덜어주기에 나선다. SK텔레콤은 한국장애인부모회에 GPS로 확인된 위치를 IoT전용망을 통해 주기적으로 알려주는 기기인 ‘키코(KEYCO)’ 3천대를 지원했다고 밝혔다.

텔릿은 IoT 개발 환경인 ‘IoT AppZone 4.0‘을 출시했다고 밝혔다.
