[Foreign News - China] MediaTek Unveils Edge AI Platform for Cross-Platform Consumer Devices
Published2018.01.10 12:09MediaTek announced its ongoing AI platform strategy to pursue AI edge computing based on the NeuroPilot AI platform today.
MediaTek plans to apply AI across its broad technology portfolio (driving 1.5 billion consumer products annually across multiple sectors including smartphones, smart homes, and automobiles) through the combination of hardware and software, APU (AI processing unit), and NeuroPilot SDK.
MediaTek will showcase its AI solutions for voice-enabled, TV, and autonomous vehicle applications at CES 2018. Additionally, MediaTek will demonstrate the power of AI and how AI is redefining consumer devices today at CES.
Jerry Yu, Vice President of MediaTek and General Manager of the Home Entertainment Business Group, stated, "2018 will be a new era in device innovation," and added, "We are committed to supporting the technology advancement of partners and customers that consumers demand by integrating AI into our chipsets." He continued, "AI-enhanced technology is rapidly becoming a part of consumers' daily experiences," and explained, "Our AI platform is designed for today's smart devices and will pave the way for an AI-driven future."
The NeuroPilot AI platform focuses on Edge AI Enabler, efficiency, and SW&HW. Based on the balance between performance and power efficiency characteristic of MediaTek chipsets, it ensures efficiency and practicality in implementing and operating AI applications across multiple devices. The platform leverages AI to enhance features and applications that people use in their daily lives with mobile devices and at home, such as intelligent camera imaging and voice and image detection or recognition.
Vice President Yu stated, "Our customers and consumers truly want genuinely intelligent devices," and said, "From features that enable better photo capture through AI processing algorithms to enhanced voice and facial recognition and accurate sensor information for autonomous driving, AI and machine learning are the technologies driving consumer product advancement." He added, "Based on our broad chipset lineup supported by our existing and new AI systems, we plan to become a comprehensive ecosystem AI solution provider."
MediaTek, an industry leader in developing low-power, high-efficiency, and highly integrated SoCs, is emerging as an Edge AI Enabler. MediaTek is leveraging its history of designing SoCs that support the broadest range of consumer product lines, from smartphones, routers, and smart TVs to voice-enabled devices and WiFi cameras.
