Automobiles Equipped with Front-Facing Cameras and Fourth-Generation EyeQ SoC Running on Roads

Professor Amnon Shashua, CEO of Mobileye, spoke about autonomous driving at CES 2018, stating that "this year, millions of vehicles equipped with front-facing cameras and Mobileye's new fourth-generation EyeQ system-on-chip (SoC) will be driven on roads, and this will play an important role in realizing the future of autonomous driving."

Vehicles produced by BMW, Nissan, and Volkswagen will collect low-bandwidth data packets to be accumulated in the cloud and generate high-resolution maps through Mobileye's Road Experience Management (REM) program.

These high-resolution maps will ultimately play a critical role in producing safe and economical Level 4 and Level 5 autonomous vehicles, but in the near future will create an entirely new category called Level 2+. Advanced consumer-targeted vehicle systems that will handle a significant portion of the driving tasks currently performed by drivers in various driving situations, including highways, have secured important momentum.

Mobileye achieved approximately 30 technology adoption successes in 2017, and in 2018, a substantial portion of this system is included in 15 programs scheduled for future launch. The ability to provide precision maps scaled to demand, by leveraging the expansion of vehicle camera-based safety systems, not only enables this system to be offered at economical prices but also elevates its level. Mobileye's technology and products have been adopted for design by 11 automakers representing more than half of the automotive industry to support advanced Level 2+ and Level 3 systems in designs to be launched through 2018 and 2019.

Through current ADAS technology and future fully autonomous driving technology, automobiles will become the greatest data transmitters on Earth. As Intel CEO Brian Krzanich mentioned in his keynote address, Professor Amnon Shashua also emphasized the importance of the ability to leverage the flood of data. He stated that this capability is an essential element in the commercialization of autonomous vehicles, and that Intel and Mobileye are collaborating to solve the data challenges we face, and that we possess the strategy, resources, products, and design capabilities to achieve this.
