TI Korea (CEO Kent Jeon, www.ti.com/ww/kr ) April 2, 2012 – TI announced the C5000™ ultra-low-power digital signal processor (DSP)-based audio capacitive touch booster pack, which adds crisp audio performance for playback and recording functions to microcontroller applications. The new audio capacitive touch booster pack (430Boost-C55audio1) is a plug-in board for use with the $4.30 MSP430™ LaunchPad development kit. As the first TI solution to enable DSP control using only the microcontroller, it allows designers to add audio and other real-time functions to systems without prior DSP programming experience. The booster pack is suitable for low-power applications that utilize recording and playback audio functions, such as MP3 players, home automation, and industrial applications.

The audio capacitive touch booster pack, featuring the C553x ultra-low power DSP and MSP430 value line device, combines the industry's most advanced ultra-low power microcontroller and DSP platform. This allows developers to add DSP capabilities to their microcontroller applications and achieve low power consumption. Developers can easily control the DSP with simple commands via UART by utilizing pre-programmed DSP functions.

• The C553x ultra-low power DSP core has a total active power of less than 0.15mW/MHz at 1.05V, the lowest total power in the industry, and enables clear audio/voice MP3 encoding and decoding.
• The MSP430G2452 microcontroller provides 0.5 μA standby power and a wake-up time of less than 1 μs, making it suitable for various low-power applications.
• Users can control volume, select song titles, and record and play audio files through the MSP430 microcontroller's capacitive touch interface
