LG Uplus announced that it has built a smart pipeline management system based on NB-IoT with integrated energy company Samchully and has started commercial services.

The construction of an industrial management service utilizing NB-IoT technology has been piloted in some areas of the Samcheolli city gas supply area for three months since August of last year. The smart pipeline management system is a solution that remotely monitors the status of pipelines and analyzes the collected data to supply city gas more efficiently and stably.

This system can be used to remotely monitor gas leaks or manhole flooding from the control room via NB-IoT terminals. In addition, the corrosion status of pipes and electrical interference in pipes due to the external environment can be remotely checked via NB-IoT terminals installed in the 'test box' that checks the status of gas pipes.

Until now, there have been concerns about safety accidents and other issues during safety inspections of city gas facilities, but now it is possible to conveniently and safely check for abnormalities in gas pipelines without having to have management personnel go to the site in person.

LG Uplus Executive Director Ahn Sung-jun said, “We plan to expand the construction of all valve rooms and test boxes within the Samcheolli city gas supply area in the future,” and “We will use this project as a stepping stone to quickly secure the NB-IoT market following the home IoT market.”
