Samsung Electronics Begins Operations at U.S. Home Appliance Factory
Published2018.01.16 12:23Samsung Electronics commenced operations at its home appliance factory in Newberry County, South Carolina, holding a shipment ceremony attended by Kim Hyun-suk, Head of Samsung Electronics’ CE Division, and South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster.
Samsung Electronics plans to invest approximately $380 million in this factory by 2020 to produce about 1 million washing machines annually and meet the demand of the U.S. market.
Samsung Electronics added significance by donating the first washing machines produced at this factory to the Freedom and Hope Foundation, which supports South Carolina veterans and children with incurable diseases, as well as to Boys Farm and the Newberry County Museum, which support children from underprivileged backgrounds.
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics signed the 'Palmetto Consortium' last year with Clemson University and the University of South Carolina and is pursuing a program to enhance manufacturing competitiveness together with the local community.
Governor Henry McMaster said, “I look forward to Samsung Electronics making a bigger leap in the U.S. market with the opportunity of the home appliance factory in South Carolina, and I am pleased that South Carolina is joining them on that journey.”
