NXP Unveils Transceiver That Provides High-Speed Ethernet Networks for Autonomous Vehicles
Published2018.02.01 15:12NXP Semiconductors has expanded its Ethernet portfolio with the introduction of the TJA1102 PHY transceiver and SJA1105x Ethernet switch.
These products have a small electronic footprint and enable automakers to provide the high-speed Ethernet networks needed for autonomous and connected cars.
NXP is actively promoting automotive Ethernet standardization and is currently presenting the next-generation standard to the market. Leading car manufacturers around the world have started to use this new NXP Ethernet solution in their next-generation car models. Based on its unique technology and experience, NXP is providing these car manufacturers with Ethernet speeds of up to 100 Mbps.
The BMW Group was the first to apply Ethernet technology to real-world driving. NXP is a co-founder of the OPEN Alliance Automotive Special Interest Group (SIG) and plays a central role. By establishing automotive Ethernet based on non-proprietary standards, it has contributed significantly to the implementation of 100 Mbps Ethernet-based architectures by various car manufacturers, including the BMW Group. NXP’s expanded Ethernet portfolio meets the networking needs of the BMW Group and the automotive industry.
Strategy Analytics, an automotive industry analyst firm, projects that the total number of Ethernet sockets will exceed 500 million per year by 2023. This means that automotive Ethernet will soon be applied more widely in entry-level mass-market vehicles. The next-generation automotive network architecture is based on an Ethernet backbone, and the use of Ethernet links in infotainment and ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) is expected to expand significantly.
“Enhancing our Ethernet portfolio is an important part of executing on our system-based roadmap,” said Alex Tan, senior vice president and general manager of NXP’s Automotive Ethernet Solutions. “We are committed to bringing to market innovative networking products that are tightly aligned with our automotive portfolio, from standalone transceivers to highly integrated SoCs.”

LG전자가 주도하는 세 업체의 공동 개발 작업은, 비전 플랫폼은 NCAP 가이드라인을 충족하고, 3-5 레벨의 자율 주행을 위한 길을 마련할 수 있도록, 개방적이고 안전해야 한다는 신념에 기반하고 있다.

NXP Unveils RF Food Defrosting Reference Design
NXP Semiconductors has unveiled a reference design used in solutions for automatically defrosting food. This has further expanded its leading position in the smart kitchen appliance integrated circuits (ICs) field. This reference design can be used as a base design for standalone smart defrosting appliances or kitchen appliances such as refrigerators and freezers, as well as cooking appliances such as ovens. NXP's smart defroser solution based on its own components and software resolves the long-standing challenge of safely and quickly defrosting frozen foods while preserving moisture and nutrients without wasting food. It is an innovative solution that can rapidly defrost primary ingredients such as beef, fish, fruits, and vegetables in just a few minutes.

European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. The presence of major domestic cities such as Seoul, Suwon, and Yongin was also confirmed. It was also revealed that Korea's European patent strategy is expanding beyond individual technologies to span the entire industry.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK텔레콤이 3월 21일 서울 광화문 일대에서 열린 대형 K-팝 공연에 AI 기반 네트워크 운영 시스템을 처음 적용해 통신 품질을 관리했다고 밝혔다. 공연 전후 3시간 동안 모바일 데이터 사용량은 12.15TB로 직전 주말 같은 시간대보다 약 2배 늘었다. SK텔레콤은 AI 시스템 ‘A-One’을 활용해 5분 단위, 50m 단위로 트래픽을 감시하며 과부하 가능성에 대응했고, 임시 통신 시설과 현장 인력 운영도 병행했다. 밀집 행사와 외국인 이용 수요가 동시에 늘어나는 환경에서 AI 기반 자율 네트워크 운영의 현장 적용 가능성을 확인한 사례로 해석된다.
