TI Korea (CEO Kent Jeon, www.ti.com/ww/kr ) April 9, 2012 – TI announced a dual-output power supply for automotive applications that guarantees stable continuous output voltage even when the input voltage drops significantly below the output voltage level. While start/stop functions in many new car models enhance fuel efficiency, they cause supply voltages to drop significantly upon engine restart. The TPS43330-Q1 family maintains full functionality even during such voltage drops, ensuring that applications operate continuously without interruption or performance degradation. System cost and complexity can be reduced because the device's ultra-low power-to-current characteristics eliminate the need for an independent standby voltage supply. Key Features and Benefits of the TPS43330-Q1 Product Family
• A wide input voltage range of 2V to 4V and transient voltage characteristics up to 60V ensure continuous operation even under severe battery voltage conditions.
• Ultra-low power-increasing current of at least 35µA and a relatively low shutdown current of 5µA reduce total application power consumption from the battery during standby operation, extending battery life and eliminating the need for a standby voltage regulator.
• Uses spread spectrum frequency modulation to reduce conducted electromagnetic interference and enables the use of simpler and lower-cost filters.
• Provides customers with flexible power sequencing support based on specific application requirements by offering individual usage and power good signals for all supply rails.
• Integrating multiple voltage rails and voltage supervisors reduces board space, design complexity, and system costs compared to discrete solutions.
• The dedicated high-side FET driver improves overall efficiency by bypassing the external reverse battery protection diode through an external PMOS FET.
Tools and Support
TI provides a variety of tools and support to accelerate design, including Power Stage Designer, PMP7001.1, and Automotive Power Reference Design for PMP7031. Evaluation modules for TPS43332-Q1, TPS43335-Q1, and TPS43336-Q1 devices are also provided.
TI offers a vast portfolio of power management ICs for automotive applications, including the TPS43330-Q1 DC/DC controller, as well as step-down converters such as the TPS57160-Q1 or PIMCs such as the TPS65023-Q1.
