Limelight Networks announced that Avitas Systems, a GE Ventures company, has selected its global private network and distributed cloud infrastructure to optimize the capabilities of its next-generation automated inspection platform.

The 'Avitas System' platform is a solution that can process time-sensitive industrial IoT data through advanced analytics based on machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI).

Additionally, the Avitas system can run platform functions individually or by country through Limelight's extensive global network of points of presence (POPs), ensuring data privacy and complying with various regulations. Individual or country-specific instances of the Avitas System Platform leverage GE's Predix Edge solution, allowing users to continue to enjoy the features and benefits of GE's Predix application services.

“Today’s global digital trends are driving the need for decentralized computing outside of traditional data centers or closer to data sources in the cloud,” said Alok Gupta, vice president of engineering at Avitas Systems. “Limelight’s large-scale global private network, distributed storage, and compute capabilities seamlessly support IoT workloads that require faster response times.”

The Avitas Systems Platform, built on GE's Predix industrial application development platform, supports complex machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities and processes data collected from fixed and portable sensors, as well as sensors attached to autonomous robots in the air, on the ground, and on the ocean.

Avitas Systems is developing virtualized, data-intensive AI applications for high-performance computing environments and low-latency execution and training, leveraging Limelight's private network and distributed cloud infrastructure. Additionally, Limelight's global private network will provide secure, high-speed alerts and real-time video streaming for remote inspections in the future.
