LG Uplus Seeks Partners to Implement 5G

LG Uplus sent out a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the introduction of 5G network equipment and held a briefing session attended by Nokia, Samsung Electronics, Ericsson LG, Huawei, and others to introduce its 5G commercialization strategy, preparation status, and business schedule.
In addition, detailed technical specifications and business requirements for equipment based on the NSA (Non-Standalone) standard included in the Request for Proposal were explained. The Request for Proposal also included a requirement for simultaneous support for both NSA and SA (Standalone).
It has enabled support for 5G base stations that support Massive MIMO, RRUs (Remote Radio Units) that can be linked with separate antennas, and 5G repeaters. As a result, it has decided to take the lead in building a 5G ecosystem based on mutual growth between large, medium, and small enterprises, allowing domestic small and medium-sized equipment companies in the antenna and repeater sectors to participate in the future.
LG Uplus plans to accelerate the construction of its 5G commercial network by receiving proposals from equipment manufacturers, selecting partners through procedures such as proposal evaluation, functionality, and development testing.
Attendees visited the 'Everyone's 5G Experience Center' to review LG Uplus's 5G service direction and experienced six major services. It was evaluated that it was useful for determining future equipment evolution and development status by allowing verification of services to be implemented with 5G and the direction of development.
Choi Ju-sik, Head of LG Uplus’s 5G Promotion Team, said, “We have continuously accumulated technological capabilities and commercialized core 5G technologies,” adding, “Taking this briefing as an opportunity, we plan to further accelerate the early construction and commercialization of 5G networks.”

LG Uplus, Nokia-Qualcomm Successfully Demonstrate 5G Data Communications
LG U+ announced that it has successfully demonstrated 5G international standard-based data communication at Nokia's facility in Finland, together with global equipment manufacturer Nokia and terminal chipset manufacturer Qualcomm. The demonstration was conducted based on NSA (Non-Standalone), which was approved as a 5G standard by 3GPP, the 5G international standardization body, in December of last year. NSA is a method of transmitting data by converging 5G and LTE. Following the NSA standard, 3GPP is preparing primary 5G specification standardization in the first half of this year, and telecommunications and equipment companies around the world will develop 5G base stations and terminals in accordance with 3GPP's standard specifications.

SKT, 알리바바와 손잡고 New ICT 시대 그려나갈 것
SK텔레콤(이하 SKT) 박정호 사장과 중국 알리바바 그룹 마윈 회장이 만나 New ICT 산업의 청사진을 논의했다. 양사는 AI와 5G와 같은 차세대 ICT 산업에 대해 의견을 교환하고 차세대 미디어, 콘텐츠 등 미래 사업 기회를 공동으로 모색하기로 합의했다. 두 회사는 이번 회동을 계기로 사업과 미래 기술 협력을 검토할 방침이며 통신, 미디어, 콘텐츠, 커머스 등 다양한 ICT 분야에서 각국 대표기업으로 활약하고 있는 만큼 협력이 추진되면 새로운 가치를 창출할 수 있을 것이라고 기대했다.

Making my surroundings a 5G communication zone: 'Mobile 5G infrastructure'
SK Telecom announced that it has connected its virtualization platform (T-MANO) to mobile 5G infrastructure, enabling it to provide customized 5G services at disaster recovery sites and large-scale events. Mobile 5G infrastructure, a non-fixed communication facility created by retrofitting large vans as an improved version of mobile base stations, is equipped with all necessary equipment for 5G services including base stations, antennas, switches, and servers. This enables a radius of 500m to 1km around the vehicle to be converted into a 5G coverage area even without any other communication facilities nearby. The virtualization platform T-MANO optimizes mobile 5G infrastructure to suit on-site conditions through software remote configuration only. Furthermore, virtualization technology eliminates the inconvenience of having to replace communication equipment from different manufacturers for each deployment site. This reduces the preparation, dispatch, and installation time for mobile 5G infrastructure.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK텔레콤이 3월 21일 서울 광화문 일대에서 열린 대형 K-팝 공연에 AI 기반 네트워크 운영 시스템을 처음 적용해 통신 품질을 관리했다고 밝혔다. 공연 전후 3시간 동안 모바일 데이터 사용량은 12.15TB로 직전 주말 같은 시간대보다 약 2배 늘었다. SK텔레콤은 AI 시스템 ‘A-One’을 활용해 5분 단위, 50m 단위로 트래픽을 감시하며 과부하 가능성에 대응했고, 임시 통신 시설과 현장 인력 운영도 병행했다. 밀집 행사와 외국인 이용 수요가 동시에 늘어나는 환경에서 AI 기반 자율 네트워크 운영의 현장 적용 가능성을 확인한 사례로 해석된다.
