'Vision AI' enhancing camera convenience, 'Voice AI' centered on voice recognition functions
We will enhance existing products as well as new ones by applying AI technology.

LG Electronics plans to unveil the 2018 LG V30 at the Mobile World Congress 2018, the world's largest mobile exhibition, held in Barcelona, Spain, for four days from February 26 to March 1. In particular, the company will enhance 'Vision AI,' which improves camera convenience by incorporating 'Empathic AI' into the V30, and 'Voice AI,' which expands the scope of voice recognition capabilities.

LG Electronics has enhanced its 'Vision AI' feature, which has been upgraded to be more convenient and smarter by combining AI with advanced smartphone camera technology, such as dual cameras, low-distortion wide-angle lenses, and glass Crystal Clear Lenses.

LG Electronics is introducing a new feature that automatically recognizes objects when the camera is pointed at them and recommends the optimal shooting mode. This feature analyzes the subject and selects one of eight modes, including Portrait, Food, Pet, and Landscape. Each mode considers factors such as angle of view, color tone, reflections, backlighting, and saturation to apply image quality that best highlights the characteristics of the subject being photographed.

LG Electronics partnered with a specialized image analysis company to analyze over 100 million photo data and developed more than 1,000 algorithms. This algorithm identifies the characteristics of the subject as soon as the camera is pointed and recommends a shooting mode.

When captured with the camera, object recognition features are also applied, enabling information retrieval, QR code analysis, and even shopping for related products. For example, if a user photographs a wristwatch they like, they can view search results for that specific product as well as similar ones. It is also possible to find out where to purchase the product at the lowest price and compare it with other products.

It also introduces a low-light shooting mode that allows shooting up to twice as brightly as before in dark places. Artificial intelligence analyzes the video on the screen and changes the settings to shoot brighter if it determines that the image is dark.

Brightness can be adjusted more precisely because it analyzes the screen visible during actual shooting, rather than using an ambient light sensor that analyzes the brightness of the external environment. The LG V30 previously applied a glass lens, the same material used in professional cameras such as DSLRs, to a smartphone. This lens has a higher visible light transmittance than conventional plastic lenses, allowing for even clearer detail.



Voice AI
LG Electronics is also enhancing its 'Voice AI' feature, which allows users to launch apps or conveniently change settings using voice commands without touching the device. The number of voice commands that execute LG's convenience features via Google Assistant is being increased from 23 to 32.

In particular, the focus was on enabling users to conveniently control LG Electronics' camera features, which can be configured in various ways depending on the situation, using voice commands. Instead of the multi-step process of launching the camera app, selecting the object recognition feature, and then proceeding with a shopping search, you can simply say, "Okay Google, take a picture with shopping search."

In addition to features available on the LG V30, such as the existing wide-angle camera and Cine Video, newly added or upgraded features like optimal shooting mode recommendations, object recognition, and low-light shooting can also be controlled by voice.

LG Electronics plans to continuously provide differentiated value to customers by leveraging AI. The company intends to enhance existing products as well, going beyond the application of AI features solely to new ones. It plans to implement AI policies that maximize customer value by considering product hardware performance and stability with existing software.
