Russia Promotes eHealth Using KT Mobile Diagnostic Devices and Platform
Various Disease Diagnosis Possible with Small Blood Sample and Simple Ultrasound Examination

KT announced that it has signed a comprehensive memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Sberbank, a Russian bank, to promote digital healthcare business. Sberbank has recently begun full-scale digital healthcare initiatives, showing interest in eHealth that provides national health services in addition to financial business, and acquiring "DocDoc," a mobile medical appointment service venture company.

Both companies agreed to jointly plan, research, and develop telemedicine services using KT's mobile diagnostic devices and digital healthcare platform, and decided to cooperate in establishing an integrated patient care data management system that links Sberbank's mobile medical appointment service ('DocDoc') with KT's digital healthcare platform.

In addition, both companies plan to cooperate on hospital construction projects based on KT's Smart Hospital solution and Sberbank's financial network, and plan to conduct pilot projects in Russia this year and then expand to neighboring CIS countries using this as a reference.



KT's mobile diagnostic device can rapidly diagnose cardiovascular diseases (angina pectoris, myocardial infarction), respiratory diseases, diabetes, and prostate cancer using a small amount of blood and urine. In addition, simple ultrasound examination can confirm abnormalities in abdominal organs such as kidneys, liver, and gallbladder, conduct fetal ultrasound examination for pregnant women, and perform basic musculoskeletal and vascular examinations.

KT's digital healthcare platform is a lightweight, flexible, and efficient EMR (Mobile Electronic Medical Record) that can replace paper-based medical records. It integrates and manages diagnostic device and patient care record data linked with the platform through short-range communication technology (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, etc.). It complies with international standards such as HL7 and DICOM and provides multilingual support in 12 countries, making it easy to interoperate with existing medical information systems.

Meanwhile, the Russian government is pursuing an eHealth project for informatization of the healthcare industry. The 'Telemedicine Service Law' went through ratification by President Putin on July 30, 2017, and legislation containing online remote consultation and electronic issuance of prescriptions took effect in January 2018, making it legally possible to create a database of Russian patients in the future.

KT is promoting business in Russia by starting pilot projects at Far Eastern National University Medical Center and signing a memorandum of understanding with Russian Railways, Russia's leading railroad company, for digital healthcare business cooperation. The Russian Railways cooperation pilot project is scheduled to commence in the first half of this year.

Go Yunjeon, head of KT's Future Business Development Division, stated, "We are pleased to have a reliable Russian partner through this business agreement with Sberbank," and added, "Given the large potential of the digital healthcare market in Russia and other CIS countries, KT will lead the expansion of differentiated healthcare business based on ICT capabilities such as 5G, big data, and AI."

Lev Khasis, Senior Vice Chairman of Sberbank, said, "Sberbank has plans to develop Russia's healthcare sector based on digital technologies including artificial intelligence, telemedicine, and remote monitoring," and stated, "Through KT's expertise in the digital healthcare field, both companies will do their best in cooperation."
