Launch of High-Speed, Single-Channel, Compact Gate Driver Product for High-Density Switching Power Design

TI has released two 4A/8A and 4A/4A single-channel, low-side gate drivers (product names: UCC27511 and UCC27517) with the industry's fastest speed and drive current performance to minimize switching losses in wide band-gap power semiconductors, such as MOSFETs, IGBTs, and GaN (gallium nitride) devices.
TI's new UCC2751x family of drivers, the UCC27511 and UCC27517, effectively replace discrete gate driver circuits using bipolar junction transistors (BJTs), significantly improving efficiency, reliability, and power density in applications such as offline isolated power supplies, communication modules, air conditioning systems, UPS, and portable power tools. Key technical features of UCC27511 and UCC27517:
• High-current drive for enhanced reliability: The UCC27511 supports up to 4A source / 8A sink drive current performance, and the UCC27517 supports 4A source/sink peak current pulses.
• Maximum Switching Speed: Both drivers feature a fast propagation delay of 13 nanoseconds (ns) and 9ns/7ns rising and falling characteristics, providing extremely low pulse distortion performance.
• Minimization of switching losses: Minimizes switching losses within the power switch's Miller Plateau region using a 0.375Ω (0.5Ω for UCC27517) pull-down resistor and improves resistance to Miller turn-on events.
• Design Flexibility: Operating voltages of 4.5V to 18V and electrical parameters supported across -40C to 140C. Simplified bias power structure with a maximum input voltage independent of VDD.
Supply timing and price
The UCC27511 is available in a 6-pin SOT-23 package with a recommended resale price of $0.60 per unit for a quantity of 1,000. The UCC27517 is available in a 5-pin SOT-23 package with a recommended resale price of $0.49 per unit for a quantity of 1,000. TI plans to supply additional single-channel gate driver products in a 3mm x 3mm 6-pin WSON package with various CMOS input thresholds in the second quarter.
