To meet these industrial trends, Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS) has developed the FDMF68xx Gen III DrMOS multi-chip module (MCM) family.

The FDMF68xx series is designed to reduce the number of inductors and output capacitors, thereby saving up to 50% of board space compared to traditional discrete solutions and improving efficiency to meet new energy standards. Using Fairchild’s high-performance PowerTrench® MOSFET technology, the FDMF68xx series dramatically reduces switching ringing by eliminating the need for snubber circuits used in most buck converter applications.

The Gen III DrMOS MCM family supports both 3.3V and 5V three-phase PWM input voltages for both digital and analog PWM controllers, and a 30V device option enables the application of DrMOS to laptop or UltraBook™ power systems. By providing switching frequencies of over 1 MHz, increased maximum load current, and higher power density along with enhanced efficiency, the Gen III DrMOS series achieves efficiency standard targets by delivering up to 60A per phase in a 6mm x 6mm PQFN package.
