Accelerate content delivery through content encryption and encoding

Limelight Networks announced Multi-DRM on the Fly, an integrated Digital Rights Management (DRM) solution. Adding this solution to its video delivery service simplifies content encryption and delivery in all DRM formats, significantly reducing content storage and management costs.

With online piracy projected to cost the world $51.6 billion between 2016 and 2022, Limelight's Multi-DRM on the Fly solution gives content distributors greater control over what end users do with video and audio streams, such as sharing, recording, and viewing.



Unlike traditional approaches that require customers to act as SIs and build and maintain their own license servers, Limelight's "Multi-DRM on the Fly" solution provides all the server-based licensing, software, and implementation services necessary for rapid deployment. By providing licensing, authentication, and video player functionality, customers can protect online streaming media content with DRM without the need for complex integrations or managing multiple vendors. Additionally, customers receive full support for deployment and a complete DRM solution integrated with Limelight CDN.

Limelight's "Multi-DRM on the Fly" approach stores VOD content as a single master file and automatically encodes it into HLS or MPEG-DASH formats using Google Widevine, Microsoft PlayReady, and Apple FairPlay encryption when requested by viewers. Traditional DRM solutions require content to be pre-encrypted and stored in streaming and DRM formats. However, Limelight encodes and encrypts content "on the fly" based on each viewer's specific device. This eliminates the need for pre-encryption and storage in multiple DRM and video formats, saving costs.
