Launch of High-Efficiency, Low-Voltage Battery-Dedicated Motor Drivers Suitable for Battery-Driven Applications
TI Korea (CEO Kent Jeon, www.ti.com/ww/kr ) April 24, 2012 – TI announced the addition of three new low-voltage devices (product names: DRV8834, DRV8835, and DRV8836) for brushed DC and stepper motors as part of the portfolio expansion of its DRV8x family of dedicated motor drivers. These three motor driver devices feature a wide low-voltage operating range, low RDS(ON), and very low sleep current. They extend battery operating time by reducing power consumption by up to 80 percent compared to major competitors and provide excellent system reliability through improved thermal characteristics. Furthermore, these products offer highly integrated solutions using ultra-small packages, saving up to 95 percent of board space compared to standalone implementations. Key Features and Advantages of DRV8834, DRV8835, and DRV8836
• Flexible Motion Profile: The DRV8834's on-chip 32-step microstepping indexer and enhanced motion control capabilities minimize torque ripple, enabling quiet and extremely smooth operation in applications such as security video cameras, medical equipment, and office automation equipment.
• Extended Battery Life: A low RDS(ON) of 0.305W and extremely low sleep current reaching as low as 10nA improve thermal performance and extend battery life in applications such as toys, digital keys, cameras, point-of-sale (POS) printers, and smart meters.
• Drop-in & Spin: Reduces design complexity compared to standalone solutions through high integration with built-in on-chip indexers and current control loops. This satisfies Microcontroller (MCU) MIPS requirements and minimizes software development time, enabling faster time-to-market.
• Save board space: The DRV8835 and DRV8836 use a small 2mm x 3mm package option.
• Enhanced On-Chip Protection: Improved system reliability and production yield by integrating overcurrent, overheating, shoot-through, and UVLO protection functions
Tools and Support
