April 27, 2012 – Intersil, a global leader in the design and production of high-performance analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, today announced iSim™ v4.1, an upgraded version of its web-based non-inverting and inverting operational amplifier design tool. Based on the previously released Active Filter Designer, this design tool expands the set of solutions provided by the company's interactive online tools.
The new design tool efficiently selects and simulates operational amplifiers with optimal precision and high speed. It also resolves execution-stage challenges, providing designers with board-ready solutions. This sophisticated approach is made possible by online macro models that yield significant secondary effects. Furthermore, designers can meet all requirements for the most suitable device through up to six input interfaces, enabling perfect designs through immediate simulation.
The device selection flow and design algorithm functions provide guidance for designers at every stage of the process, enabling easier design and robust solutions. Additionally, iSim v4.1 offers input impedance matching and DC blocking functions. Guard banded bandwidth and slew rate can be configured to exclude operational amplifiers to achieve the target bandwidth, thereby preventing non-linear operation.
iSim also considers various secondary effects, including total output noise, input bias current, total output offset voltage, and slew rate limiting. Once the design begins, the design tools enable immediate simulation of small-signal AC response, step response, or output noise. Immediate redesign capabilities are made possible by each tool that supports design options to prioritize the values of the proposed components. In addition, schematics generated by the online tool can be downloaded and used in the iSim:PE™ desktop simulator.
