Ansys to Acquire Optis, Expanding Ansys' Portfolio into Optical Simulation The acquisition is expected to close in the second quarter of 2018.

As the industry competition for sensor development for safe autonomous vehicles intensifies, the role of engineering simulation is becoming increasingly important. ANSYS is developing simulation solutions for autonomous vehicle sensor development and plans to expand its market leadership by acquiring Optis. By adding Optis’ capabilities to its portfolio, ANSYS will provide customers with a range of sensor solutions covering visible and infrared, electromagnetics, and acoustics for cameras, radar, and lidar.

Optis is a physics-based software developer that simulates light and human vision. Unlike other companies that consider the aesthetics of light, Optis provides simulations based on solutions for actual physics. Currently, leading global automobile companies such as Audi, Ford, and Toyota, as well as business leaders in various fields such as Boeing, Airbus, and GE are using Optis' solutions.



Additionally, Optis has developed a photorealistic virtual reality and closed-loop simulation platform that accelerates the development of autonomous vehicles. When used in conjunction with ANSYS solutions, this VR-based platform enables automakers to effectively simulate autonomous vehicle environments, including road conditions, weather, and one-way streets.
