Cognex BD Suite Unveils Various New Products, Including the ES-A5000

Cognex announced that it will participate in Automation World 2018, which will be held on March 28, with the theme of “The Future of Vision.”

Cognex will be showcasing a variety of new products, including the 'Cognex BD Suite', a machine vision solution using deep learning technology, the 'ES-A5000', a high-performance 3D camera that enables bin-picking, the 'DSMAX' that supports high-precision, high-speed dimensional inspection and surface inspection, the 'Vision Guided Robot (VGR)', a high-precision assembly solution through robot guidance, the 'Insight 2000-23M', an upgraded version of the existing Insight 2000 vision sensor, and the latest ID reader.

Cognex's newly launched "Cognex Vid Suite" is a deep learning-based image analysis and inspection software designed for industrial image analysis. Based on cutting-edge machine learning algorithms, it delivers significantly improved image analysis capabilities. It is expected to be widely used in challenging machine vision applications in the future because it can solve inspection and classification problems that could not be programmed using existing methods.



The Cognex Vidi Suite consists of VidiBlue (feature location and identification), VidiRed (segmentation and defect detection), and VidiGreen (object and scene classification). VidiBlue is a tool used to locate and identify one or more features in an image. It can identify and identify even severely deformed characters or multiple complex objects against noisy backgrounds.

BD-RED is a tool for detecting anomalies and aesthetic defects. The RED tool learns the normal appearance of an object, including distinct but acceptable variations, and can identify issues such as surface scratches and improper assembly. BD-RED is also used to segment specific areas.

Bidi Green is a tool that classifies input images, distinguishing between product identification based on packaging, classification of weld seams, and determination of acceptable defects.

The ES-A5000 generates over one million detailed 3D data points, enabling precise inspection and measurement of objects. Its built-in illumination allows for precise 3D image extraction even in poor lighting conditions, enhancing inspection accuracy. In particular, its patented structured light technology enables image acquisition speeds of up to 10 Hz and measurement precision of up to 5 μm, enabling the inspection of a large number of parts in a short period of time. Since the maximum field of view is 1490 x 1090 mm, it is expected to be useful in the logistics field as it can inspect objects of various sizes and shapes.

'DSMAX' is a 3D scanning solution that supports high-resolution, high-precision, and ultra-high-speed scanning based on advanced compression technology. It outputs a high-resolution full frame of 2048 pixels at up to 20 kHz, enabling significantly faster scanning than conventional 3D scanning solutions. Equipped with a vertically oriented laser beam and a telecentric lens, it ensures a high level of measurement accuracy across the entire scan area without any obscuration or distortion. The application of a green laser and a large-aperture lens enhances recognition sensitivity and reduces exposure time, while stable laser generation and operation ensure consistent performance even over long periods of time. Furthermore, its IP67 rating (completely protected against dust and submersion up to 1 meter) ensures reliable operation even in dusty and humid manufacturing environments.

The Cognex booth offers visitors a variety of hands-on experiences that allow them to experience the power of Cognex products firsthand. These include a cube-solving challenge with ABB's dual-arm robot, Yumi, equipped with Insight vision technology, and a hands-on experience zone for the "BD Suite" deep learning vision inspection solution, where visitors can experience its capabilities firsthand.
