LG Uplus Lays Groundwork for Terminal Development with 5G Device Technical Requirements

The 5G device technical requirements document describes specifications and quality standards optimized for using a terminal on the LG Uplus network, and is essential for terminal manufacturers to develop smartphones.
The distributed technical requirements included not only 5G standard specifications but also a structure that allows smartphones to flexibly respond to the evolution of 5G networks, antenna transmission and reception performance, etc.
LG Uplus expects that the 5G device technical requirements will become the manufacturing standard for future 5G smartphones, as they mention specifications and quality standards optimized for domestic networks. In addition, it was explained that manufacturers can now embark on full-scale smartphone development, laying the groundwork for the early commercialization of 5G in Korea.
Prior to this, LG Uplus participated in a total of 35 5G standard proposals and received approval for 23 standards, including frequency CA combinations that use LTE and 5G frequencies simultaneously, thereby actively contributing to the 5G standardization of the '3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project)' NSA (Non Stand Alone) method completed last December.
LG Uplus plans to support device manufacturers in smoothly preparing for smartphone launches by contributing inspection standards to the Green Climate Fund (GCF), an international quality verification standardization organization that establishes device inspection criteria.
Choi Joo-sik, head of LG Uplus’s 5G Promotion Team, said, “We are conducting concrete technical discussions with device manufacturers, such as distributing technical requirements for the development of 5G smartphones,” adding, “We will continue active cooperation with manufacturers so that 5G smartphones can be launched in time for the 5G network rollout in 2019.”
Meanwhile, LG Uplus has successfully demonstrated data communication based on 5G international standards at Nokia’s headquarters in Finland, together with global equipment manufacturer Nokia and terminal chipset manufacturer Qualcomm.

The derived results and patterns revealed issues such as data consumption burden and image quality degradation due to speed limitations.

누구보다 빠른 KT의 5G 상용화 전략은?
KT는 5G 성과 발표 및 상용화 전략 기자간담회를 통해 2018 평창 동계올림픽과 패럴림픽에서 사용한 5G 기술과 미래 전략에 관해 발표했다. 오성목 KT 네트워크부문장은 “KT는 모바일 월드 콩그레스(MWC)에서 2018년 올림픽에서 세계 최초 5G 시범서비스를 선보이겠다고 공표한 후 조기 5G 상용화를 위해 여러 기술과 서비스 개발에 힘썼다고” 말했다. KT는 이번 올림픽에서 싱크뷰, 타임 슬라이스, 옴니뷰 등의 5G 기반의 기술을 피겨 스케이팅과 쇼트트랙, 스키 등의 종목에 적용했다. 이를 통해 공중도약이나 결승 골 등의 주요 장면을 캐치한 입체 영상이나 360도 각도의 경기 장면을 관중과 시청자에게 전했다. 봅슬레이에서 상위 10개 팀에 장착된 싱크뷰의 경우는 미국 NBC에서도 사용했다. 또한, KT 5G 커넥티드 버스에 정부와 언론사, 통신사 CEO 등 3,000여 명이 탑승했다.

European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK텔레콤이 3월 21일 서울 광화문 일대에서 열린 대형 K-팝 공연에 AI 기반 네트워크 운영 시스템을 처음 적용해 통신 품질을 관리했다고 밝혔다. 공연 전후 3시간 동안 모바일 데이터 사용량은 12.15TB로 직전 주말 같은 시간대보다 약 2배 늘었다. SK텔레콤은 AI 시스템 ‘A-One’을 활용해 5분 단위, 50m 단위로 트래픽을 감시하며 과부하 가능성에 대응했고, 임시 통신 시설과 현장 인력 운영도 병행했다. 밀집 행사와 외국인 이용 수요가 동시에 늘어나는 환경에서 AI 기반 자율 네트워크 운영의 현장 적용 가능성을 확인한 사례로 해석된다.
