LG Uplus Launches 'Friends Plus Minions' Speaker with Naver

LG Uplus is launching 'Friends Plus Minions' as a new speaker model in collaboration with Naver to support the AI smart home service 'U+ Our Home AI'.
This is a model of the 'Friends Plus' speaker, equipped with Naver's AI platform 'Clova,' featuring a new design of the popular 'Minions' characters.
The feature of Friends Plus Minions is the 'Talk to Minions' function. This service is a new feature provided by the Naver Clova platform. By saying “Clova, call Minion,” users can continue a continuous conversation with the speaker without a separate wake word, asking questions such as “What is your name?” or “Do you like bananas?”, giving customers the feeling of having a real conversation with the Minions characters.
In addition, Friends Plus Minions includes 9 types of Minions character eye/mouth stickers, allowing customers to customize the speaker's appearance according to their preferences.
In addition, it is worth noting that alarm sounds for power on/off, WiFi network settings, and errors are recorded in the voice of the Minions character 'Kevin,' highlighting the unique character of the Minions.
Along with these differentiated features, users can access core U+ Home AI services, such as U+tv VOD keyword search and voice-controlled Home IoT, just like with previously released Friends Plus speakers. Recently, 'YBM English Fairy Tales,' an English education service for children, and 'Bugs Music,' a music service, have also become available.
Meanwhile, customers who wish to purchase Friends Plus Minions can receive it for free at no extra cost through the Customer Appreciation Grand Festival, which offers a U+ Our Home AI Speaker.
Lee Hae-seong, Head of AI Services at LG Uplus, said, “Through our collaboration with Naver, we are introducing a speaker featuring the Minions design and characters, which are popular with people of all ages, following Line Friends,” adding, “We will continue to strive to provide attractive devices to our customers.”

LG Uplus Lays Groundwork for Terminal Development with 5G Device Technical Requirements
LG유플러스는 5G 디바이스 기술요구서를 국내 단말 제조사인 LG전자, 삼성전자에 배포했다고 밝혔다. 5G 디바이스 기술요구서는 LG유플러스 통신망에서 단말을 사용함에 있어 최적화된 규격과 품질 기준 내용이 기술된 요구서로 단말 제조사에서 스마트폰을 개발하기 위해서 필수적이다. 배포된 기술요구서에는 5G 표준 사항 뿐만 아니라 스마트폰이 5G망 진화에 유연하게 대응할 수 있는 구조, 안테나 송수신 성능 등의 내용이 포함됐다. LG유플러스는 5G 디바이스 기술요구서가 국내망에 최적화된 규격과 품질 기준을 언급하고 있어 앞으로의 5G 스마트폰 제조 기준이 될 것으로 기대하고 있다. 또한 제조사들이 본격적으로 스마트폰 개발에 나설 수 있게 돼 국내 5G 조기 상용화의 발판을 마련했다고 설명했다. 이에 앞서 LG유플러스는 총 35건의 5G 표준 제안에 참여해 LTE와 5G 주파수를 동시 사용 하는 주파수 CA 조합 등 23건의 표준 승인을 받아 지난해 12월 완료된 ‘3GPP(3rd Generation Partnership Project)’ NSA(Non Stand Alone) 방식의 5G 표준화에 적극 기여했다.

LG Uplus-Central Veterans Hospital to Build AI-Based Smart Hospital
LG유플러스는 중앙보훈병원과 함께 인공지능 서비스를 적용한 스마트병원 구축에 나선다고 밝혔다. 이를 위해 양사는 1월부터 LG유플러스의 ICT 전문 인력과 중앙보훈병원의 진료 분야 및 병원 행정 전문 인력으로 전담 TF를 구성해 스마트병원 구축에 필요한 단기와 중장기 프로젝트를 선별하였고, 상호 협력하여 이에 대한 추진 및 공동연구를 진행하기로 했다. 특히 LG유플러스는 국내 최초로 병실 내에 AI스피커와 IoT기기, IPTV가 설치된 ‘U+ AI 스마트병실’을 구축한다.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK텔레콤이 3월 21일 서울 광화문 일대에서 열린 대형 K-팝 공연에 AI 기반 네트워크 운영 시스템을 처음 적용해 통신 품질을 관리했다고 밝혔다. 공연 전후 3시간 동안 모바일 데이터 사용량은 12.15TB로 직전 주말 같은 시간대보다 약 2배 늘었다. SK텔레콤은 AI 시스템 ‘A-One’을 활용해 5분 단위, 50m 단위로 트래픽을 감시하며 과부하 가능성에 대응했고, 임시 통신 시설과 현장 인력 운영도 병행했다. 밀집 행사와 외국인 이용 수요가 동시에 늘어나는 환경에서 AI 기반 자율 네트워크 운영의 현장 적용 가능성을 확인한 사례로 해석된다.
