Sub-second implementation without additional plugins for speed improvement

Limelight Networks announced at NAB 2018, the world's largest broadcast equipment exhibition, that it will showcase enhanced features of its Limelight Video Platform and Video Delivery Service, as well as a new WebRTC (Web Real-time Communication)-based live streaming solution that achieves sub-second latency.

WebRTC-based live streaming solutions are based on open, scalable technologies supported by standard web browsers without the need for additional special plugins, enabling sub-second latency and enabling video streaming to any region, anywhere in the world. By integrating WebRTC streaming technology into the Limelight Orchestrate platform, content distributors can implement low-latency live video streaming workflows such as sports broadcasting, gambling, gaming, and real-time auctions.

The Video Delivery Service enables live and VOD media management, packaging, and broadcast-quality video delivery to virtually any screen via Limelight's global private fiber backbone CDN. New and enhanced features include:

Limelight Video Platform (LVP): Limelight's Online Video Platform (OVP) provides integrated functionality to easily manage, publish, sell, measure, and monetize online video content. New and improved features include a user interface that streamlines operations, HTML player customization, and media management.

Live to VOD Recording: Introduced the ability to stream real-time video while simultaneously recording it for later use as VOD content. Live video streams are automatically captured and converted to common VOD formats for later playback.

Limelight Video Acceleration: Reduces latency for standard HLS and MPEG-DASH video streaming formats to 3 seconds.

Multi-DRM on the Fly: This solution simplifies content encryption and delivery using all common DRM formats. It reduces the costs of storing and managing encrypted content by encrypting and encoding content on the fly, tailored to the needs of viewers using specific devices.
