New Gate Driver Optocoupler Device Product – High Isolation Voltage and Excellent Noise Immunity
High-power industrial applications such as solar inverters, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and motor drives require gate driver optocouplers capable of handling networks of 690VAC or higher and 1000VDC or higher with DC constant voltage. To handle such voltage levels, creepage and clearance distances must be at least 10mm. Additionally, applications such as Harsh Environment Inverters (HEI) require even wider creepage and clearance distances, even for 690VAC networks. To meet these requirements, Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS) has introduced the FOD8320 as an enhanced 2.5A output current gate driver optocoupler device.
The FOD8320 optocoupler, utilizing Fairchild Semiconductor’s Optoplanar® packaging technology and optimized IC design, achieves reliable high isolation voltage and high noise immunity. By using a wide-body 5-pin SOP package, this device achieves a compact footprint and enables creepage and clearance distances of over 10 mm and an internal isolation distance of 0.5 mm. Additionally, the FOD8320 operates over an extended industrial temperature range of -40°C to +100°C and is ideally suited for high-speed switching of power IGBTs and MOSFETs used in industrial inverter applications. Featuring a minimum Common Mode Noise Rejection (CMNo) performance of 35 kV/µs through the use of proprietary coplanar packaging technology known as “Optoplanar,” the FOD8320 prevents the accumulation of capacitance that occurs in over-under structures.
