Trimble Announces Vision and Strategy for Building a Construction Industry Ecosystem

Trimble Korea announced that it successfully held the 'Trimble BIM Innovation Conference 2018' at the El Tower in Yangjae-dong, Seoul.

Attended by approximately 400 construction industry professionals, the event introduced the latest construction solutions that generate constructable digital information aligned with project workflows, and discussed the current state of the BIM market and the future direction of BIM technology. In addition, the event featured case studies from customers successfully operating their businesses using Trimble BIM solutions, as well as exhibitions by partner booths.

The Trimble BIM Innovation Conference is an international annual event held in the Asia-Pacific region, including Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. It receives a great response from participants as it introduces the latest construction industry trends, new technologies, and strategies for improving business efficiency, along with the experiences and know-how of customers who have successfully implemented Trimble BIM solutions.

The morning session of this event consisted of delivering global market trends and Trimble's insights. First, Thomas Phang, Trimble's Managing Director for Southeast Asia, garnered attention with a keynote speech in which he presented Trimble's vision and business strategy regarding the establishment of a construction industry ecosystem, moving beyond BIM as software. Following this, Jin Sang-yoon, President of the Korea BIM Society, took the stage as a speaker and presented the evolution of domestic BIM over the past decade and the direction of development for practitioner-centered BIM collaboration processes.

Following this, Kim Hae-geon, Executive Director of Trimble Korea, reviewed the present and future of BIM-based technologies, while Kim Dong-jun, Senior Vice President, presented on the impact of the latest technologies on industrial sites, various industrial application cases, and future business innovation strategies. In the subsequent session, Jung Jong-hoon, Senior Vice President, took the stage to provide a detailed introduction to Trimble's latest BIM solution, Tekla Structures 2018.

The customer case presentations held during the afternoon session introduced examples of BIM utilization across various sectors of the construction industry. The session covered a diverse range of topics, including process changes for BIM strategy, power plant project management, improvement of steel structure design efficiency, utilization of 3D scanning solutions, precast project management, apartment construction project management, CAD virtualization and BIM implementation, and reinforced concrete project management. Experience and know-how were shared from leading domestic construction companies such as POSCO E&C and SK E&C, as well as specialized engineering firms including Yeonwoo Technology.

POSCO E&C gave a presentation on the process changes it decided upon for the successful application of BIM at construction sites, introducing the role and case studies of structures as a core element. The subsequent case presentation by SK E&C covered the standardization and visualization of management information, which are critical tasks in power plant project management.

Yeonwoo Technology introduced case studies of apartment construction projects, focusing on methods for establishing appropriate modeling standards and detailed processes. In particular, they presented a method for calculating performance items required for structural work using 3D structural models and announced on-site support measures, such as reviewing structural issues that arise during construction. NVIDIA shared a case study on building flexible and secure CAD and BIM in the cloud through its GPU virtualization solution, 'Quadro Virtual Datacenter Workstation (Quadro vDWS).'

In addition, four companies, including DS Tech, Building Point Korea, Yeonwoo PC Engineering, and Seed Soft, participated and presented BIM-related solutions and measures to improve productivity.
