May 8, 2012 – Linear Technology Korea (CEO Hong Sa-kwak) announced the development of a new high-precision temperature sensor and dual supply monitor for low-voltage systems (Product Name: LTC2995). The LTC2995 measures remote diode temperature with an accuracy of ±1°C and die temperature with an accuracy of ±2°C, while simultaneously eliminating errors caused by noise and series resistance. Two voltage rails (one of which must be within the 2.25V and 5.5V ranges to power the device) are monitored with an accuracy of ±1.5%, minimizing the required system supply margin. The LTC2995 provides VPTAT (voltage-proportional-to-absolute-temperature) output, as well as alarm outputs for individual undertemperature, overtemperature, undervoltage, and overvoltage defined by user-adjustable thresholds. No code is required for device configuration. The LTC2995 is a space-saving, low-power solution that combines temperature monitoring and dual voltage monitoring functions.
With its accuracy, configurability, and code-free operation, the LTC2995 can be applied to a wide range of applications, including system thermal control, energy harvesting, desktop and laptop computers, network servers, and environmental monitoring. Users can choose to measure local temperature, remote temperature, or both alternately, and the two temperature output pins are configurable to accommodate any combination of undertemperature and/or overtemperature alarms. Temperature readings are updated every 3.5ms to provide the system with sufficient time to respond to an alarm. A 1.8V voltage reference output is also provided for sharing with an external ADC or for generating a temperature threshold voltage. During voltage monitoring, an input glitch filter reduces error resets caused by noise, and the two supplies share overvoltage and undervoltage pins. All thresholds can be easily adjusted with a resistor divider, and the reset delay time for all alarm outputs can be adjusted with a single capacitor. The LTC2995 consumes only 220µA of supply current over the entire operating temperature range.
The LTC2995 is available in commercial, industrial, and automotive versions, supporting temperature ranges of 0°C to 70°C, -40°C to 85°C, and -40°C to 125°C, respectively. The LTC2995 is RoHS compliant and is available in a 20-pin 3mm x 3mm QFN package. Pricing starts at $2.45 per unit for orders of 1,000.
