"Creating My Own 5G": Service Idea Contest for University Students Held

KT, which successfully showcased 5G pilot services at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, is setting out to discover new 5G services together with university students.
KT announced that it will hold the 'Hi Five! 5G Idea Contest' for university and graduate students nationwide.
The theme of the contest is to propose new service ideas utilizing 5G technology, which offers transmission speeds 20 times faster than LTE, response speeds 10 times faster, and support for more than 10 times the large-scale connections. Any student currently enrolled in a university or graduate school can freely present creative ideas or imagination.
This contest was planned to increase the interest and understanding of the younger generation regarding 5G, and to discover ideas that can innovate daily life by applying 5G to various fields, not limited to smartphone services, given that 5G is receiving attention as the foundation of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Applications can be submitted individually or as a team through the contest website (https://kt5gidea.com) until May 8, and a total of 16 million won in prize money will be awarded, including 5 million won for the Grand Prize and 3 million won for the Excellence Prize.
In addition, KT provides customized communication programs, such as one-on-one mentoring and presentation coaching, to finalists in this competition. We plan to actively support Generation Y in improving their understanding and capabilities regarding 5G by providing lectures, Q&A sessions, and coaching sessions by KT 5G experts on new 5G technologies that they will encounter in their daily lives.
The evaluation will be conducted based on four criteria: originality, logic, feasibility, and relevance to 5G technology. Finalists will participate in a final presentation at KT Square on May 24 to select the final winners. University and graduate students wishing to participate can download the application form from the contest website and submit it along with their proposal. Lee Yong-kyu, Senior Vice President of KT's 5G Business Division, stated, "This 5G contest will not be a one-way event where participants simply submit ideas and that is the end; rather, it will be a great opportunity for university students to grow through mutual communication between the company and participants to complement and develop the realism and specificity of their ideas."

누구보다 빠른 KT의 5G 상용화 전략은?
KT는 5G 성과 발표 및 상용화 전략 기자간담회를 통해 2018 평창 동계올림픽과 패럴림픽에서 사용한 5G 기술과 미래 전략에 관해 발표했다. 오성목 KT 네트워크부문장은 “KT는 모바일 월드 콩그레스(MWC)에서 2018년 올림픽에서 세계 최초 5G 시범서비스를 선보이겠다고 공표한 후 조기 5G 상용화를 위해 여러 기술과 서비스 개발에 힘썼다고” 말했다. KT는 이번 올림픽에서 싱크뷰, 타임 슬라이스, 옴니뷰 등의 5G 기반의 기술을 피겨 스케이팅과 쇼트트랙, 스키 등의 종목에 적용했다. 이를 통해 공중도약이나 결승 골 등의 주요 장면을 캐치한 입체 영상이나 360도 각도의 경기 장면을 관중과 시청자에게 전했다. 봅슬레이에서 상위 10개 팀에 장착된 싱크뷰의 경우는 미국 NBC에서도 사용했다. 또한, KT 5G 커넥티드 버스에 정부와 언론사, 통신사 CEO 등 3,000여 명이 탑승했다.

KT는 바로 지금 대한민국 곳곳 즐길 수 있는 KT의 5G를 소개하는 새로운 캠페인 ‘하이 파이브! KT 5G (Hi Five! KT 5G)’를 시작한다고 밝혔다. 이번 캠페인의 슬로건인 ‘하이 파이브! KT 5G (Hi Five! KT 5G)’는 응원, 축하의 표시로 두 사람이 서로 손바닥을 마주치는 행동인 ‘하이파이브(High-five)’와 5G를 맞이하는 인사(Hi, Five)를 중의적으로 표현했다.

European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. The presence of major domestic cities such as Seoul, Suwon, and Yongin was also confirmed. It was also revealed that Korea's European patent strategy is expanding beyond individual technologies to span the entire industry.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK텔레콤이 3월 21일 서울 광화문 일대에서 열린 대형 K-팝 공연에 AI 기반 네트워크 운영 시스템을 처음 적용해 통신 품질을 관리했다고 밝혔다. 공연 전후 3시간 동안 모바일 데이터 사용량은 12.15TB로 직전 주말 같은 시간대보다 약 2배 늘었다. SK텔레콤은 AI 시스템 ‘A-One’을 활용해 5분 단위, 50m 단위로 트래픽을 감시하며 과부하 가능성에 대응했고, 임시 통신 시설과 현장 인력 운영도 병행했다. 밀집 행사와 외국인 이용 수요가 동시에 늘어나는 환경에서 AI 기반 자율 네트워크 운영의 현장 적용 가능성을 확인한 사례로 해석된다.
