Samsung Electronics Launches Consumer SSD '970 PRO·970 EVO' Globally
Published2018.04.24 23:00Samsung Electronics is simultaneously launching the consumer NVMe SSD '970 PRO·EVO' series in approximately 50 countries worldwide including South Korea, the United States, China, and Germany.
Following the launch of the '960 PRO·EVO', which was highly praised as a top-tier consumer NVMe SSD, the '970 PRO·EVO' offers approximately 30% improved sequential write speed and industry-leading reliability, which is expected to satisfy consumers' increasingly high expectations.
NVMe is a PCIe interface-based protocol that can deliver speeds up to 6 times greater than SATA interface, making it suitable for ultra-high-speed, large-capacity data processing.
In particular, the '970 PRO·EVO' maximizes the advantages of NVMe SSD by incorporating Samsung Electronics' latest 64-layer V-NAND, Phoenix controller, and ultra-high-speed mobile DRAM (LPDDR4) along with optimized firmware.
The '970 PRO·EVO' achieves industry-leading performance and power efficiency with maximum sequential read/write speeds of 3,500 MB/s and 2,700 MB/s respectively. For TBW (Total bytes Written), a metric that indicates SSD lifespan, the drive offers up to 1,200 TBW (970 PRO 1TB and 970 EVO 2TB models). The warranty period is 5 years.
Additionally, with a slim M.2 form factor and various capacity options up to 2TB, it enables consumers requiring high-performance SSDs for 3D and 4K graphics work, high-spec gaming, and VR content creation to build optimal systems.
Kim Eon-soo, Executive Director of the Brand Product Marketing Team at Samsung Electronics' Memory Business Division, stated, "Following the 960 series, which was recognized for the highest NVMe SSD performance, we have launched the superior '970 PRO·970 EVO', continuing to lead the expansion of the NVMe SSD market." He further emphasized, "This 970 series sets new standards across all aspects of NVMe SSD, including best-in-class performance, outstanding reliability, and design convenience."

Samsung Electronics has launched the '30.72TB SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) SSD' (PM1643), which delivers up to twice the capacity and performance compared to its predecessor (15.36TB SAS SSD).
