Starting May 1st, the rate will be standardized to 170 won/kWh, and supplied at a 30% discounted rate during late-night hours.

KT, a domestic public electric vehicle charging operator, announced that it will change its electric vehicle charging rates, which were previously applied differently depending on the season and time of day, to a single rate system starting May 1.

Until now, KT has differentiated electric vehicle charging rates based on the season and time of day, ranging from a minimum of 130 won/kWh (summer off-peak hours) to a maximum of 337 won/kWh (summer peak hours), with an average rate of 190 won/kWh. This has been standardized to 170 won/kWh so that electric vehicle users can easily recognize and conveniently use the service regardless of the season or time.

In addition, to expand customer benefits in consideration of the spread of electric vehicles, the rate will be offered at 120 won/kWh with a 30% discount during late-night hours (23:00–09:00), when electric vehicle charging mainly takes place, until the end of this year, and if you use a BC Green Card, you can charge at a rate of 60 won/kWh with an additional discount of up to 50%.

Meanwhile, KT is pursuing the introduction of various payment methods to promote electric vehicles and enhance customer convenience. KT operates an on-site payment function to allow non-members to easily use KT's electric vehicle chargers, and has confirmed the introduction of Samsung Pay, a mobile payment method, within the second half of the year, becoming the first electric vehicle charging operator to do so.

We are applying various payment methods, ranging from online member simple payment functions to IC cards, RF cards, and NFC mobile pay, to all top-up machines, and are preparing to implement rechargeable prepaid cards that allow users to top up funds in advance and use them on-site.

Kim Young-myung, Head of KT’s Smart Energy Business Group, stated, “KT is building and operating approximately 3,000 electric vehicle chargers nationwide based on KT-MEG, an integrated energy management platform. We will continue to expand our infrastructure and enhance service convenience to provide customers with a differentiated charging service experience. In addition, we plan to continue developing new energy businesses, such as EV-DR (Electric Vehicle Demand Response) projects utilizing electric vehicle battery resources.”
