May 10, 2012 - Dialog Semiconductor Korea (CEO Kim Gwi-young), a leading provider of innovative, highly integrated power management, audio, and short-range wireless technologies, announced that Samsung Electronics has selected Dialog's power management and ultra-low-power audio technologies for its new smartphone platform. This marks Dialog's second integration into Samsung's smartphone platform, following an announcement in November.

This new global platform, utilizing the Dialog IC, will be applied to Samsung's Galaxy series of smartphones. The first device to utilize this platform is the Galaxy Pocket (Galaxy Pocket S5300), which recently began mass production. Samsung Electronics also plans to introduce other global 3G mobile phone series utilizing this Dialog platform next month.

Dialog's continued success in supplying products to Samsung Electronics stems from its advanced technology, which combines or integrates highly complex system power management capabilities that fully support multiple platforms with cutting-edge, low-power Class D audio technology into a single package. This allows for superior audio quality while significantly reducing power consumption and board area.

This announcement follows Dialog's recent news that it is providing system-level power management and low-power audio ICs for Samsung Electronics' TD-SCDMA-based smartphones supplied by China Mobile, China's largest mobile operator. This further expands Dialog's relationship with Samsung Electronics by once again participating in the design of a smartphone platform. This platform is based on a different application processor than the previously announced TD-SCDMA platform.

According to data from market research firm IDC, mobile phone manufacturers shipped a total of 144.9 million smartphones in the first quarter of 2012, with Samsung Electronics shipping 42 million of them during the same period, ranking first with a 29.1% market share.
