Providing security, scalability, and convenience across hardware and software

Arm and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) held a joint research agreement ceremony at the KEPCO Art Center to jointly develop SoC and device management solutions for the open power metering infrastructure (Advanced Metering Infrastructure, AMI).

The two companies will jointly develop SoC and device management solutions for AMI over a three-year period through 2021:

Arm will provide flexible and secure connectivity and device management capabilities to KEPCO’s AMI system through its Mbed IoT Device Management solution. “Enterprises face significant challenges due to the complexity of IoT. They need solutions that provide security, scalability, and ease of use across hardware and software,” said Dipesh Patel, president of the IoT Services Group at Arm. “With over 25 years of experience in SoC technology and designing scalable software device management solutions, Arm is committed to working with KEPCO to support secure, end-to-end IoT deployments.”

KEPCO will jointly develop and utilize the Arm Cortex-M33 processor, Platform Security Architecture (PSA) with Arm TrustZone technology, and Mbed IoT device management solution for more secure device facilities and management. Kim Dong-seop, head of KEPCO’s New Growth Technology Division, said, “The development of SoC and device management solutions for AMI is an important digital transformation project for KEPCO, which will provide customers with not only better electric power energy marketplace services (smart home, integrated metering, demand management, energy trading, etc.) but also strong security functions.” He added, “Arm has comprehensive IoT solution technology that can safely develop, manage, and connect IoT devices from chips to the cloud, so it was selected as KEPCO’s joint research partner for the development of SoC and device management solutions for AMI.”
