Fairchild Semiconductor's Single and Dual Comparators

A solution that enables the use of different audio jacks on the same device

Purchasing managers and supply operations management face many challenges. Among them is the need to secure consistent and reliable suppliers for the devices required by customers. Fairchild Semiconductor, a leading global supplier of high-performance power and mobile products working closely with key customers, developed the FAN156 low-voltage comparator and the FAN256 dual low-voltage comparator to provide flexibility in supply operations.

Fairchild engineers leverage devices within existing core comparator designs to rapidly meet specific customer needs. By offering two single and dual low-voltage comparators, it provides the necessary flexibility to offer customers the opportunity to use either one or two depending on application conditions. Furthermore, it simplifies supply operations management by enabling the use of two solutions from a single source.

The FAN156 and FAN256 are low-power comparators that consume a typical power current of 10μA or less. These products operate at a low voltage of 1.6V and are ideal for use in 1.8V, 3.0V, and 5.0V systems that function perfectly up to 5.5V. These comparators are suitable for applications such as mobile phones, alarms, security systems, PDAs, computers, and portable medical devices.

In mobile applications, the FAN156 and FAN256 products help drive various audio headset jacks used in the same product, as well as reduce the triple drop problem associated with slow insertion of audio headset jacks. Both products feature complementary push-pull P and N channel outputs capable of driving a load rail-to-rail output swing in the 5.0mA range.

FAN256 is an 8-pin, 1.6 × 1.6 mm MicroPak package, and FAN156 is a 6-pin, 1.0 × 1.45 mm MicroPak™ package.
