Samsung SDS Launches Full-Scale External Business with Multi-Cloud Services
Published2018.05.17 15:11Samsung SDS announced that it is launching its external cloud business in earnest, unveiling its multi-cloud service 'Samsung SDS Enterprise Cloud' at the Sangam Data Center.
Samsung SDS Enterprise Cloud is a multi-cloud service that combines new technologies secured through partnerships with leading global companies, based on know-how accumulated through the migration and operation of cloud services for Samsung affiliates.
Recently, global companies are facing new challenges such as selecting the optimal cloud, establishing cloud migration plans by business function, migrating between different types of clouds, and managing multi-cloud operations.
Samsung SDS provides total multi-cloud services, ranging from consulting to migration and operation, to customers facing such concerns by applying business-specific cloud migration methodologies accumulated through its work with Samsung affiliates.
In a multi-cloud environment where private and public clouds are utilized simultaneously depending on business characteristics, security, stability, and performance are key for the private cloud, while rapid development and cost optimization are important for the public cloud.
In particular, Samsung SDS’s private cloud has the world’s highest level of availability (99.999%), guaranteeing a total annual system downtime of less than 5 minutes, and has strengths in cloud services for core business functions such as ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), MES (Manufacturing Execution System), and SCM (Supply Chain Management).
Also, Samsung SDS AppliThrough a cloud platform as a Service (PaaS) specialized for application development, corporate customers can reduce the time required to set up a development environment from several days to just 15 minutes, enabling rapid development and deployment of applications.
Samsung SDS’s customer-tailored Public Cloud Managed Service (CMS) provides optimal cloud selection, stable cloud migration, maximized cost efficiency, and integrated management of heterogeneous clouds through GOV (Global One View).
Along with this, Samsung SDS plans to introduce a cloud-based supercomputing service to the market in the second half of this year, providing computing resources necessary for high-performance computation and large-scale data processing, such as artificial intelligence and big data analysis.

Samsung SDS Q1 Revenue Driven by Cloud and Smart Factory Businesses
Samsung SDS announced through a provisional earnings disclosure that it recorded sales of 2.3569 trillion won and operating profit of 181.8 billion won for the first quarter of 2018. This represents increases of 10% in sales and 24% in operating profit compared to the same period of the previous year. By business division, IT services sales reached 1.3457 trillion won, up 10.2% compared to the same period of the previous year, driven by favorable performance in cloud business and expansion of solution business including smart factory.

Samsung SDS invests in Bitfusion, a US GPU virtualization technology company.
Samsung SDS announced that it has invested in Bitfusion, a U.S.-based GPU virtualization technology company, through Samsung Venture Investment. Bitfusion possesses technology that virtualizes and efficiently manages GPU (Graphic Processing Unit) resources required for high-performance computing in △artificial intelligence services △autonomous vehicles △big data analysis and other applications. Compared to CPUs (Central Processing Units), which process data sequentially, GPUs can rapidly process large volumes of data for AI and real-time big data analysis, and market demand has been surging recently.

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation. The company explained that it reduces the limitations of existing security operations centers, which have had to forgo some data due to high cost structures, and enables large-scale data analysis and automation based on open formats and ecosystems. LakeWatch is currently offered as a private preview, with Adobe and Dropbox mentioned as early customers.
