Next-Generation Intelligent Transportation System Interoperability Test Held for Three Days

As part of the activities of the 'Cooperative Autonomous Driving Industry Development Council' launched last March, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will hold a next-generation intelligent transportation system (C-ITS) interoperability test at the Seoul Trade Exhibition Convention Center from Monday, May 21 to Friday, May 25.

The council has held monthly symposiums to provide a venue for various technology exchanges, including presentations on autonomous driving business plans by major companies, announcements of smart infrastructure standards, and briefings for small and medium-sized enterprises.

This month, interoperability tests are being conducted to verify whether communication equipment developed by related companies operates in conjunction with each other, in order to support the early commercialization of smart infrastructure such as terminals and base stations.

It is to verify whether the communication equipment adheres to the prescribed format for exchanging information between vehicles (V2V) and between vehicles and base stations (V2I), and whether it can also exchange information with products developed by other companies.

The results of performance evaluations of equipment developed by companies through testing hold significant meaning for the creation of an autonomous cooperative driving industry ecosystem, as they enable the formulation of future plans for technological improvements and business investments.

The event will feature 17 leading companies in the infrastructure sector, including Hyundai Mobis and CaneviCom, which have developed terminal and base station-related products and are about to begin mass production, with plans to test core performance related to communication and security.

On the 24th, a technology exchange event related to smart infrastructure will also be held. Following a congratulatory speech by the Director General of Automobile Management at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the event will introduce the methods and procedures for infrastructure equipment performance certification and the direction for establishing a security system, and demonstrate interoperability testing to allow for a firsthand view of the infrastructure technology.

The Director General of Automotive Management at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport stated, “Taking this event as an opportunity, we plan to actively support Korean companies so that they can verify and enhance the performance of smart infrastructure products and commercialize them promptly without having to go abroad.” He added, “In the second half of the year, we will also support our companies’ overseas expansion by inviting U.S. infrastructure equipment certification agencies to introduce the U.S. methods and procedures for infrastructure-related equipment performance certification.”
