Presenting the latest domestic and international BIM application cases to seek securing BIM competitiveness

Autodesk is launching an updated version of its Architecture, Engineering, and Construction collection of integrated BIM tools for building design, infrastructure design, and architecture in Korea. Key products in this update include Revit 2019, InfraWorks 2019, and Civil 3D 2019.

In addition, Autodesk will host the 'Autodesk BIM Forum 2018' on the 4th to introduce enhanced collection products, revitalize the domestic BIM market, and secure BIM competitiveness for domestic companies.

This forum will showcase the latest construction technologies and solutions in line with the rapidly changing global construction market, and will share domestic and international BIM application cases and how to utilize the cloud-based product 'BIM 360'. In particular, we plan to present Qatar's BIM policies, procurement status, and future development directions to provide helpful information to domestic companies looking to participate in projects in the Middle East.

Architecture, Engineering, and Construction Collection Update

■ Revit 2019

The updated Revit 2019 features significantly improved workspaces. By organizing the workspace into tabs, it is possible to work simultaneously on two or more screens using multiple monitors. The functionality of the 3D Perspective View and 3D Scope Box has been enhanced, and the 3D creation environment has been improved by enabling elevation representation in 3D views. Furthermore, structural modeling capabilities have been strengthened, including connection detailing for steel members, rebar placement for irregular concrete designs, and precast modeling, which has also improved compatibility with Autodesk's Advanced Steel product. Advanced Steel is software specialized in steel structure design that can 3D model detailed items of complex steel structures.

■ InfraWorks 2019

Infraworks 2019 is characterized by its ability to efficiently manage and collaborate on data through integration with BIM 360 Docs, Autodesk's cloud-based data management product. Road modeling capabilities have been improved by adding cross-section components and tunnels to Component Road, a road planning design tool, and compatibility with Revit and Civil 3D has also been enhanced.

■ Civil 3D 2019

Civil 3D 2019 automatically installs the Batch Save Utility when the product is installed. The Batch Save Utility allows you to open and save multiple drawing and template files in a specified version. Additionally, it enables the identification of differences between two drawings using the DWG Compare function of AutoCAD. All models and drawings in the cloud can be easily shared with others by creating a link through a free Autodesk account.

Autodesk BIM Forum 2018

Meanwhile, Autodesk will hold the 'Autodesk BIM Forum 2018' at GS Tower in Seoul on July 4 and showcase the latest solutions related to construction and civil engineering, as well as BIM application cases for global expansion, including the domestic market.

Charlie Yoon, Chief Architect and BIM Manager at ASTAD, a Qatar state-owned project management consulting firm, and Hyun So-young, Senior Consultant at Mitie Group, a UK-based facility management firm, will attend the event to share the latest BIM application cases.

Chief Architect Charlie Yun plans to present Qatar's BIM policies, current ordering status, and future development directions to provide information that can contribute to securing BIM competitiveness for domestic companies seeking to participate in projects in the Middle East.

Senior Consultant Hyun So-young plans to share BIM case studies combined with the latest technologies, focusing on user-centered building performance optimization and the establishment of efficient building operation management systems based on big data analysis and IoT.

Lim Min-soo, Senior Vice President of the Architecture, Construction, and Civil Engineering Division at Autodesk Korea, stated, “The global construction market is rapidly changing around BIM and continues to evolve in combination with various technologies.” He added, “While the domestic market is also undergoing rapid restructuring, efforts are still needed to ensure the full establishment of BIM technology.”

This forum will feature sessions on various topics, including the announcement of new features in Revit 2019, BIM application in small design offices, and cloud-based utilization approaches using BIM 360.
