May 29, 2012 – Linear Technology Corporation announces the introduction of the LTC3787, H- and MP-grade versions. This high power, 2-phase, single output synchronous step-up DC/DC controller replaces the boost diode with a high efficiency N-channel MOSFET, eliminating the heat sink normally required for high power boost converters. The LT3787 produces a 24V, 10A output from a 12V input with efficiency up to 97%. Its standby current of 135µA in Burst Mode® operation makes it ideal for automotive and medical applications. The H and MP-grade versions are guaranteed for operation from -40°C to 150°C and -55°C to 150°C, respectively.
The LTC3787 operates over an input voltage range of 4.5V to 38V during start-up, maintains operation down to 2.5V after start-up, and can regulate an output voltage as high as 60V. The powerful 1.2Ω onboard N-channel MOSFET gate drivers are capable of quickly driving large MOSFET gates. The device's current mode architecture, clock output and phase modulation features allow easy paralleling of multiple devices up to 12-phase operation. The LTC3787 is phase-lockable from 75kHz to 850kHz or operates with a fixed frequency from 50kHz to 900kHz.
