May 30, 2012 - QuickLogic Corporation, a leading provider of low-power CSSP (Customer Specific Standard Products), announced today that its VEE (Visual Enhancement Engine) technology* has been integrated into the PoP Video pico projector* from Micron Technology, an accessory for iPhone and iPod touch.
QuickLogic's VEE technology, based on Apical Limited's iridix® core, enhances the projection performance of PoP Video by dynamically adapting video content to the viewing environment. This technology increases perceived brightness without further increasing the power consumption of the light source. With VEE technology, PoP Video users can view all types of projection video content clearly in most viewing environments.
PoP Video is an economical and highly portable multipurpose device that can project multiple types of video content from iPhone and iPod touch.
Based on long battery life and economical projection performance, PoP Video elevates the user's viewing experience to the highest level.
Paul Karazuba, Senior Product Marketing Manager at QuickLogic, stated, "PoP Video has established the standard for mobile accessory pico projectors," and added, "Micron is an ideal partner, and PoP Video is the ideal platform that brought VEE technology to the pico projector accessory market."
Negin Oliver, Marketing Director at Micron Technology, said, "QuickLogic's VEE technology enables PoP Video to deliver convenient projection functionality and optimal visual performance, making it an outstanding pico projector accessory."

*PoP Video: An ultra-compact Dock connector projector announced by Micron Technology. Simply connect iPhone/iPod touch to the Dock connector for setup, supporting 960x540 resolution display, with approximately 2 hours of usage time with the built-in battery.
*VEE Technology: A high-quality contrast optimization technology developed by QuickLogic and iridix for various mobile consumer and prosumer devices. Since mobile LCDs have limited contrast ratios, image colors easily fade in bright ambient light or sun reflection environments. Traditionally, this problem was addressed by increasing LCD backlight, but this results in shortened battery life. VEE technology provides both visual improvement and enhanced battery life simultaneously, offering the best alternative to this approach for essential use cases in current and future mobile products.
VEE improves image and video visibility without affecting on-screen graphics by intelligently re-mapping display data to enhance sub-regional changes. For example, this plays an important role when consumers split-screen web browsing with mobile TV or YouTube functions. Additionally, mobile devices with VEE technology applied deliver excellent user experience in outdoor and bright ambient light environments without increasing LCD backlight (thereby preserving battery life), while operating with lower LCD backlight in indoor or low ambient light conditions while maintaining visual performance. The most common example is watching movies on a mobile device during airplane travel. One of the true advantages of VEE architecture is its ability to update the settings in real-time, adjusting the algorithm according to changes in ambient light conditions.
