NXP, Fast and Secure Contactless Ticketing Implementation at the 2018 FIFA Russia World Cup

NXP Semiconductors implemented secure contactless ticketing at the 2018 FIFA Russia World Cup matches by utilizing its MIFARE Ultralight EV1 contactless IC chips. The Russia World Cup tickets feature NXP contactless IC chips embedded within them, allowing soccer fans to gain immediate stadium access simply by holding their tickets up to a contactless reader. This electronic ticketing solution based on the same MIFARE product platform was previously used at the 2017 FIFA Russia Confederations Cup.
The NXP contactless IC chip embedded in each ticket carries a special unique signature. Additionally, it contains information regarding ticket usage and authenticity, thereby preventing fraudulent use such as ticket scalping.
NXP's NTAG NFC technology was also applied to the Adidas Telstar 18, the official ball of the Russia World Cup. Through the NFC technology integrated into the Telstar 18 official ball, users can access detailed information about individual official balls via smartphone. They also receive access to challenges that can be participated in during the FIFA World Cup period.

Samsung Electronics has installed smart signage at 50 CGV cinemas nationwide. Customers visiting the CGV cinemas can view various information through Samsung's smart signage, including movie trailers, advertisements, theater information, ticketing, and entrance guidance. Samsung Electronics has installed approximately 500 units of video wall-type signage that can be combined with multiple displays to function as a large screen, as well as various products including large-format UHD signage at 50 CGV cinemas nationwide, including locations in Wangsimni, Gangnam, Suwon, Daejeon, and Centum City in Busan. The 46-inch and 55-inch video wall-type smart signage and the large 85-inch UHD signage installed this time feature durability that poses no problems even with continuous 24-hour operation throughout the week, and support high brightness of 500 nits to display various content clearly even in dark spaces.

ST Provides Technology for Implementing Contactless Transactions in Wearable Devices
STMicroelectronics (ST) provides technology for implementing secure and convenient contactless transactions in popular wristbands and fashion products such as watches and jewelry. The SiP (System-in-Package) solution ST53G combines ST's industry-leading Near Field Communication (NFC) expertise with a secure payment chip. As consumers become increasingly familiar with secure payments using smart devices, existing card manufacturers are looking to expand their business into contactless wearable products for applications such as payments, ticketing, and access control. However, implementation is challenging due to tight size constraints and cost limitations. This is because conventional NFC wireless chips and security chips have required additional space and complex designs when added separately. Additionally, due to the nature of wearable form factors, only small antennas can be used, which limits communication performance. ST's new SiP-based ST53G addresses these issues by integrating a secure financial chip and enhanced compact NFC wireless functionality into a single small module of 4 x 4mm. With ST's boostedNFC, an industry-leading patented technology, wearable devices equipped with small antennas can provide an excellent user experience when interacting with card readers at distances beyond typical contactless range.
