Over 1,300 people participated from across the country
IBM’s AI-based Future Talent Education Experience


IBM Korea provided an opportunity for over 1,300 middle and high school students, teachers, and IBM employees to experience new concepts of future talent education, such as artificial intelligence and design thinking, through the 'New Collar Festival' held on July 21.

IBM is striving to cultivate "New Collar" talent, who require an appropriate combination of soft skills—such as technical skills, competencies, communication, collaboration, and creative problem-solving abilities—rather than a four-year college degree. This event was organized to enhance the understanding of technology and provide creative problem-solving methods for middle and high school students, teachers, and IBM employees.

Event participants had the opportunity to build a small robot called 'TJ Bot' using IBM's AI APIs provided via the cloud. Through TJ Bot, participants were able to directly experience various aspects of artificial intelligence, such as communicating in eight languages and operating a robotic arm. Furthermore, through IBM Design Thinking, they realized the importance of collaboration and communication while producing a mobile app, and were able to experience creative and logical thinking processes.

Choi Hwa-taek, a teacher at Semyeong High School, said, “It was a great opportunity to build an artificial intelligence robot using IBM Watson and experience a soft skills education method called design thinking.” "I believe that if IBM's educational methods are applied to our educational field, the future of our students will be bright," he said, sharing his thoughts on the participation.

Regina Son, Managing Director at IBM Korea who organized this event, said, “IBM spares no investment or effort in cutting-edge technology, not just in the business sector,” adding, “We organized this event to provide opportunities for more students to experience and receive education in advanced technology, while simultaneously fostering talent equipped with the skills and capabilities required by the times.”
