May 31, 2012 – Linear Technology Korea (CEO Hong Sa-kwak) announced the launch of the 65V input synchronous buck converter (Product Name: LTC3630). This product provides a continuous output current of up to 500mA in a 16-pin, heat-enhanced 3mm x 5mm DFN or MSOP package. Its internal synchronous rectification topology offers high efficiency of 90%, and with a standby current consumption of only 12µA during Burst Mode® operation, it maximizes battery operating time. Operating over an input voltage range of 4V to 65V, the LT3630 is utilized in a wide range of applications, including automotive, industrial, medical, and avionics.
The LTC3630's internal synchronous rectification and programmable peak current limiting design optimize efficiency while minimizing output ripple and external component size. Furthermore, the output current can be programmed from 50mA to 500mA using a single resistor. The LTC3630's output voltage can be adjusted from 0.8V to VIN using an external resistor divider, or it can be easily programmed to provide a fixed output of 1.8V, 3.3V, or 5V with 1% accuracy. By utilizing a 3mm x 5mm DFN package (or the heat-enhanced MSOP-16E) and only three ultra-small external components, this product is characterized by providing a very compact solution footprint for a wide range of general-purpose applications.
The LTC3630 ensures high efficiency in a very compact footprint by utilizing internal high-side and low-side power MOSFETs. Additionally, the LTC3630 enables controlled system startup under any conditions based on precision drive threshold and soft-start features. Furthermore, a feedback comparator output is provided to allow multiple LTC3630 units to be connected in parallel for high-current applications. This converter is inherently very stable and does not require any external compensation, so it can ultimately minimize the solution footprint.
The LTC3630EDHC and LTC3630EMSE are priced at $3.20 per unit. The industrial-grade versions, LTC3630IDHC and LTC3630IMSE, operate over a contact temperature range of -40°C to 125°C and are priced at $3.55 per unit. The automotive-grade versions, LTC3630HDHC and LTC3630HMSE, are tested and guaranteed to operate over a contact temperature range of -40°C to 150°C and are priced at $3.80 per unit. The military-grade plastics versions, LTC3630MPDHC and LTC3630MPMSE, are tested and guaranteed to operate over a contact temperature range of 55°C to 150°C and are priced at $10.72 per unit.
