June 01, 2012, Seoul – STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM, hereinafter ST), a global semiconductor company in various electronic device applications and a leader in high-performance audio ICs, has unveiled technologies and components for smart audio accessories that will be a new concept in personal sound with Soundchip SA, a Swiss audio company that developed the HD-PA (High Definition Personal Audio) standard.
Smart audio accessories worn like In-Ear Monitors (IEMs) offer new features that allow users to control and customize their personal sound experience for specific situations. They can be used in all modes—including music, phone calls, and face-to-face conversations—without changing the configuration of the in-ear unit while worn. They perfectly block out unwanted background noise to reproduce sound accurately.
Furthermore, audio accessories employing Soundchip's patented sound processor technology provide a natural and comfortable audio experience during conversations, even when the ears are blocked. By electronically "opening" to directly transmit ambient sound to the wearer, it enables natural listening and conversation even while wearing the device.
Switching between various sound sources, such as voice, music, and ambient sounds, can be easily achieved simply through buttons, predefined actions, or voice commands. You can also benefit from a variety of other options through the technology of ST, a leader in the MEMS motion sensor sector.
Meanwhile, combining smart audio accessories with a DSP or a DSP-level controller such as the STM32 F4, smartphone, or tablet provides an even more realistic sound experience.
Smart audio accessories, composed of Soundchip's patented HD-PA® standard electro-acoustic platform and ST's premium HD-PA® standard-based MEMS microphones, integrate electronics, MEMS sensor technology, and acoustics to present the future of personal audio.
