Unveiled: World's First Quad-Core HD Audio Processor System-on-Chip (SoC)
June 4, 2012 - Wolfson Microelectronics Korea (CEO Ki-Tae Kim, www.wolfsonmicro.com ) announced today the release of the world's first quad-core HD audio processor system-on-chip (SoC), the WM5110.
Featuring enhanced DSP capabilities along with a low-power HD audio processor, the WM5110 delivers groundbreaking HD audio performance for smartphones, tablet computers, and portable multimedia devices, setting a new standard for mobile audio processing.
The WM5110 delivers a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 110dB and 600 MIPS of processing power while requiring only 3mW of headphone power, making it the most efficient and high-performance HD audio processor on the market.
MIPS and memory, along with a forthcoming proprietary software development kit for running Wolfson's voice enhancement and noise reduction software, customer-specific software, and third-party software, enable OEMs to easily create unique audio quality. This allows them to differentiate their products in the market while providing true platform compatibility and future-proofing.
The WM5110 also features industry-leading ambient noise cancellation (ANC), acoustic echo cancellation (AEC), transmit path (Tx), and transmit path (Rx) noise reduction for earphones and stereo headphones, providing 32dB and 20dB of noise reduction, respectively.
This feature dramatically improves the user experience for both receiver and sender by reducing ambient noise by over 90%.
The WM5110 also features wideband audio, multi-microphone beamforming, wind noise suppression, and programmable filters, delivering remarkably clear and crisp voice calls even in noisy environments. This allows users to experience true multimedia sound, superior audio capture and playback, and pristine conference calls.
Compared to competing products, the WM5110 not only offers a lower solution cost but also has 10 fewer components. It also requires less PCB area, reducing manufacturing costs for manufacturers.
