• iNAND Extreme provides up to 128GB of storage in industry-leading small packaging
• Uses iNAND Extreme in NVIDIA Tegra 3 reference design

June 5, 2012, Seoul — SanDisk, a global leader in flash memory storage solutions, announced today that it is utilizing the world's most advanced semiconductor manufacturing process to produce its highest-performing embedded memory products.

iNAND Extreme™ is currently being manufactured using SanDisk's 19-nanometer (nm)* process technology to realize high-capacity, high-performance embedded NAND flash memory products ideal for high-end tablets and smartphones. Android OS, as well as the upcoming Microsoft Windows® RT version (ARM-based Windows 8) OS, can fully utilize the advantages of iNAND Extreme, such as its capacity, performance, and small size.

iNAND Extreme embedded flash memory significantly improves performance in areas such as multitasking, web browsing, file transfer, and image capture, delivering a more enjoyable experience to smartphone and tablet users. iNAND Extreme is available in capacities ranging from 16GB to 128GB*, with 128GB being large enough to store multiple HD movies, thousands of songs, and photos.

The fabrication technology used to build the circuits of iNAND Extreme in the 19nm process is incredibly small. For comparison, the thickness of a sheet of paper is about 0.1mm or about 100,000nm, meaning that more than 5,000 19nm-sized products can fit into the thickness of a single sheet of paper.

iNAND Extreme is recommended as a high-performance storage device for high-end tablets and mobile devices running the latest OS and will be used in the reference design of the latest NVIDIA® Tegra® 3 4-plus-1™ quad-core processor.

Rene Haas, General Manager of NVIDIA Notebook Products, said, “SanDisk is a key headquarters partner in showcasing the performance of Tegra 3. Just as Tegra delivers exceptional performance and battery life across a variety of mobile devices, iNAND Extreme provides high-performance memory solutions to help enable world-class tablet and mobile device user experiences.”

Dan Inbar, Senior Vice President and General Manager of SanDisk’s OEM Business, stated, “We are leveraging SanDisk’s technology and manufacturing expertise to supply high-capacity storage to OEM customers that delivers tangible benefits to consumers. We are also collaborating with leading global software companies to optimize our memory for next-generation operating systems, file systems, and common usage patterns. Through this, we are further strengthening our capabilities to support mobile device manufacturers in creating products that deliver exceptional user experiences.”

SanDisk’s 128GB iNAND Extreme is highly competitive, released in a 12mm x 16mm package. Compliant with the new e.MMC™ 4.5 standard, it can achieve sequential write speeds of up to 45 MB/s and read speeds of up to 100 MB/s. The new iNAND Extreme improves random write performance by more than double compared to the previous generation and significantly enhances random read performance. It is designed to integrate optimally with file systems used by current and future tablets and smartphones. Samples of the latest iNAND Extreme will be available to customers this month, with products featuring it scheduled for release this summer.

The SanDisk iNAND product family includes embedded storage solutions that meet all performance and capacity requirements of the mobile market. The SanDisk iNAND™ family includes iNAND™, iNAND Ultra™, and iNAND Extreme products.
