Infineon Technologies secured the top position in the global power semiconductor market.

Global energy demand continues to rise, creating a need for efficient power semiconductors. Power semiconductors are used everywhere power is generated, transmitted, and consumed. By utilizing power semiconductors, devices, machinery, and systems can be controlled with maximum efficiency.

According to 2017 market research by HIS Markit, Infineon maintained the top position in the overall market including power ICs and recorded a growth rate higher than the industry average. In the discrete and module segments, Infineon held the number one position for 15 consecutive years. In the discrete IGBT segment, the company widened its gap over the second-place company by more than threefold. In the IPM segment, market share increased by 1.4%. Notably, the growth rate reached 39.2%, exceeding the market average of 20.1%. Infineon also held the top position in the MOSFET and standard IGBT module segments.

Power semiconductors enable wind turbines and solar systems to generate and convert power efficiently. The power generated this way is supplied to home appliances, notebooks, data centers, and beyond with minimal loss, thereby conserving resources and contributing to sustainable power supply.
