Low-Power USB-UART Bridge Controller Announced!
Published2012.06.12 10:11The new device provides a cost-effective low-power solution for converting Full-Speed USB 2.0 interface to traditional UART (Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter) interface. This device requires no additional firmware/software development effort to utilize the new solution, enabling faster time-to-market and reduced development costs for system manufacturers. The EZ-USB USB-UART bridge controller provides a low sleep current of 6 µA. Additionally, this bridge controller features power management functions such as USB remote wake-up, device enumeration, bus-powered and self-powered modes. These features enable manufacturers to comply with USB-IF standards. The controller also integrates a clock generator that eliminates the need for external crystals while reducing BOM cost and board area.
"The EZ-USB USB-UART bridge controller is the first device in the USB product family of serial bridge products. Cypress has addressed the most critical power consumption issues discussed by designers and provided an excellent and easy-to-use design solution for low-power applications such as compact form-factor printers, USB-UART cables, and industrial systems," said Young-Do Lim, Country Manager of Cypress Korea.
The EZ-USB USB-UART bridge controller integrates 128 bytes of programmable memory for configuring device parameters including vendor and product IDs, strings, and power modes (self-powered or bus-powered). Additionally, a software configuration utility is available that supports customers in modifying these parameters via USB port. Cypress provides drivers for use with 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP.
Product Status
The CY7C64225, currently in mass production, can be ordered through Cypress and distribution partners, and is available in a 28-pin SSOP package compatible with two-layer printed circuit boards. ST Microelectronics has unveiled the 'STSPIN9P' series of 75V motor drive ICs tailored for 48V-class industrial drive system design.
