TI announced the release of a new Software Development Kit (SDK) that enables Android 4.0 (“Ice Cream Sandwich”) on Sitara™ AM335x and AM37x ARM®-Cortex™-A8 processors. This complete software product allows innovators to fully evaluate Android 4.0 on embedded applications running on TI’s Sitara processors. Optimized for low-cost, low-power Android 4.0-based applications
For the first time, Sitara ARM developers can utilize Android 4.0 for low-cost, low-power applications. These low-cost, low-power applications include wearable gadgets such as watches and goggles, display panels for home devices and automation, educational and enterprise tablets where video is not critical, POS terminals, portable navigation devices, and industrial control applications.

Quick and easy evaluation of Android-based applications
The SDK fully provides pre-integrated connectivity features and 3D graphics performance, and offers a stable software foundation that can be utilized across various Sitara processor products. To support developers in quickly and easily integrating and evaluating Android-based applications, the SDK has fully tested its features using the Android compatibility test suite on platforms such as the AM335x EVM (evaluation module), Beagleboard-xM, BeagleBone, AM37xEVM, and Flash Board. The SDK includes the following:
• Linux kernel
• Boot loader (uboot/x-loader)
• Android 4.0.3 “Ice Cream Sandwich” operating system (OS)
• 3D graphics using Imagination Technologies' POWERVR™ SGXOpenGL® driver and library
• TI's WiLink™ 6.0 Combo Connection Driver for Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) and Bluetooth® v2.1 Technologies
• RowboPERF, a performance measurement and benchmarking application
• Host tools that support Android debugging via TI's Code Composer Studio™ software
• Application notes, guides, and test results for developer support

TI's Sitara Android 4.0 SDK for ARM Cortex-A8 processors is currently available for free download without any restrictions on development or mass production. Developers interested in testing the latest Android code for Sitara can also visit the open source community via rowboat.org. Developers can conduct evaluations on the following various TI platforms:

The Sitara ARM processor provides software support for commonly used operating systems, supporting microcontroller-like programming including the following solutions:
