LG Uplus announced on the 27th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Daemyung TP&E, Daemyung Hotel & Resort, Ericsson-LG, and Hongcheon-gun at Vivaldi Park in Hongcheon, Gangwon-do, to build a 5G-based eco-friendly smart resort, theme park, and tourism.

Various information and communication technologies (ICT), such as AI, IoT, energy saving, and autonomous driving, are planned to be applied to 5G-based eco-friendly smart resorts and theme parks based on LG Uplus's 5G network and Ericsson-LG's IoT platform. Through this, the plan is to ensure efficient operation of the facilities, as well as secure customer safety and enhance convenience.

Under this agreement, LG Uplus plans to demonstrate the world's first smart water quality monitoring service, intelligent CCTV drowning prevention service, and intelligent CCTV skier abnormal behavior detection service at Vivaldi Park in Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon-do.

The smart water quality monitoring service allows for real-time verification of water pollution levels in hot springs and swimming pools used by customers through IoT laser sensors that measure water quality. It allows managers to immediately verify and respond quickly to contamination such as bacteria and foreign substances, minimizing customer damage caused by water pollution.

Intelligent CCTV-based behavior detection services help prevent safety accidents that may occur at swimming pools and ski resorts. In the case of the drowning prevention service, if an intelligent CCTV installed underwater detects a customer who has not moved for a certain period of time, it notifies safety personnel of the emergency situation through alarms and warning lights.

The skier abnormal behavior detection service can prevent safety accidents at the ski resort by detecting customers engaging in dangerous behaviors, such as sitting on the slopes, falling, or veering off, and notifying managers.

In addition to this, services such as the 'IoT Solar Compactor Trash Can' that automatically compresses waste and provides real-time load information, the 'Smart Location Tracking Service' that tracks the indoor and outdoor locations of children and the elderly, the 'IoT Helmet' capable of high-definition video and voice calls, the 'LTE Walkie-Talkie' usable without distance limitations, and 'Smart Check-in and Check-out' via in-room occupancy sensors are also scheduled to be provided.

LG Uplus plans to continuously identify new services and expand them to new business sites being pursued by Daemyung Group.

Meanwhile, Ericsson-LG, together with Hongcheon County, plans to build an eco-friendly business site utilizing next-generation energy sources such as Mobility as a Service, hydrogen fuel cells, and solar power, linked to the local commercial district of Hongcheon, in line with Gangwon Province's specialized project to promote the 4th Industrial Revolution. In addition, we plan to develop a solution that analyzes tourists' travel routes and consumption patterns using big data to revitalize local commercial districts.

Hyun Jun-yong, Executive Vice President and Head of the IoT/AI Division at LG Uplus, said, “We will provide various services applying our advanced 5G network, AI, IoT, and other Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies through close cooperation with Daemyung Group and Hongcheon County,” adding, “Through this, visitors will be able to enjoy a safer and more convenient smart resort.”

Patrick Johansson, CEO of Ericsson-LG, stated, “5G will evolve around service use cases,” adding, “I believe this project is an exemplary case of collaboration between local governments, the telecommunications industry, and traditional industries, and I look forward to more opportunities in the future.”

Hongcheon County Governor Heo Pil-hong said, “I am pleased that this business agreement has laid the foundation to connect Hongcheon County’s local commercial district with the 4.5 million annual tourists visiting Vivaldi Park,” adding, “Furthermore, we will spare no support, such as linking local resources, to ensure mutual growth with all companies participating in the agreement.”
