Why LG Electronics' 940g 'Gram' laptop transformed into a drone
Published2017.08.18 16:39On the 18th, LG Electronics released a unique video (see below) showcasing the light weight and long-lasting battery performance of the 'LG All Day Gram'.
Together with students from Hanyang University's Department of Industrial Convergence, we transformed laptops into drones. We attached wings to the laptop body and powered it with a laptop battery. We built drones using three laptops of varying weights and battery capacities, including the LG All-Day Gram, and tested how long they could fly on just the laptop battery.
The LG All-Day Gram weighs 940 grams and has a 60 Wh battery capacity. Notebook A weighs 799 grams and has a 30 Wh battery capacity, while Notebook B weighs 1.3 kilograms and has a 43 Wh battery capacity.
In the test, the LG All-Day Gram flew 2.3 kilometers, while Laptop A flew 1.4 kilometers. Laptop B failed to fly due to its heavy weight.
Meanwhile, the LG All-Day Gram has been a sales hit since its launch, boasting more than twice the battery life of existing models. The LG "All-Day" Gram now accounts for 90% of all LG Gram laptops sold by LG Electronics this year.

LG Electronics is introducing a built-in showroom. LG Electronics opened the 'SIGNATURE KITCHEN SUITE' showroom in Nonhyeon-dong, Seoul on the 17th to expand its built-in business and commenced official operations. The opening event was attended by Song Dae-hyun, President of the Home Appliance & Air Solutions Business Division, Choi Sang-gyu, President of the Korean Sales Division, world-renowned architect 'Thom Mayne' who participated in the showroom design, and actor Kim Sung-ryung. The 'SIGNATURE KITCHEN SUITE' showroom, Korea's first ultra-premium built-in showroom, spans a total of 1,918 square meters with five floors above ground and one floor below ground. It features various luxury kitchen space packages composed of 'SIGNATURE KITCHEN SUITE' and a space where customers can actually learn to cook premium cuisine. STMicroelectronics' latest MEMS sensors measure diverse information including vibration, temperature, and acoustic signals, and execute machine learning within the sensor itself through in-sensor AI to assess anomalies in real time.
