Samsung Electronics has launched the 'ISOCELL Slim 3T2,' the industry's first 1/3.4-inch image sensor supporting 20-megapixel high resolution.
'ISOCELL Slim 3T2' is a product composed of ultra-small pixels of 0.8㎛ (micrometers) and applies 'ISOCELL Plus' technology, which improves light loss and interference phenomena, to provide a solution optimized for bezel-less designs.

The recent trend in the smartphone market is designs that maximize screen size, such as 'hole-in displays' and 'notch displays'. To achieve this, it is essential to reduce the size of the camera module.

However, as the size of the camera module decreased, the number of pixels inevitably decreased as well, making it difficult to use high-resolution cameras.

Accordingly, Samsung Electronics solved these customers' concerns with the 'ISOCELL Slim 3T2' product, which is the industry's first to support 20 million pixels in a small 1/3.4-inch sensor.

This product enables bright image capture even in dark environments using 'Tetracell' technology, which increases sensitivity fourfold by making four pixels function as one when used as a front camera.

In addition, when used for the rear camera, it boasts high-definition 20-megapixel resolution, delivering sharp image quality even with a high-magnification telephoto camera.

When using 10x digital zoom, the resolution can be improved by approximately 60% compared to a 13-megapixel image sensor of the same size.

The height of the camera module can also be reduced by about 10% compared to a 1/3-inch sensor of the same 20-megapixel size.

"The ISOCELL Slim 3T2 is a groundbreaking new product that can provide differentiated value to customers not only in performance but also in design," said Jinhyun Kwon, Senior Vice President of the Sensor Marketing Team at Samsung Electronics' S.LSI Business Division. "We will continue to introduce various image sensor technologies to lead innovation in mobile devices."

Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics plans to mass-produce the 'ISOCELL Slim 3T2' starting in the first quarter of this year.
